A day of sewing then an evening of exploring, what do you say?
My Paper Fan Dress sewing pattern is now ready for you to download from here. I hope you love it.  I love this photo too.  I can't believe that my Eleni and our sweet little friend Claire (this Claire!) are so big.
I'll be writing more about the project over at Janome next week where we'll have a link to the (almost ready) video for the pattern too.  For now you can have a look over the pattern and get your fav fabrics ready!
Thank you so much for all the birthday love, and many happy returns to all of your summer birthdays.
Colorado, I'm packing! xo,Anna

Hi! I'm in Colorado, but I'll bet you're not coming near Crested Butte! You should, it's beyond beautiful. I LOVE the little paper fan dress, but I can't get it to print! Anybody else having this problem?

  10. Pretty!
Thank goodness there are still pretty dresses in the world. Having been shopping, I was beginning to wonder why retailers are confusing seven year old girls with cocktail waitresses? I am a *fan* of your style, and good taste, Anna Maria.

  15. Hi Anon & Abundantly Blessed- not sure what to recommend. We've been able to view and print from 3 different computers here. If you are able to view the pdf but not print it, I don't think it's a problem with the file. I typically only receive insufficient data messages when a file isn't fully donwloaded. I am flying out in the morning, but will try to check back in so do let me know if you have luck- and if others are able to print, please let me know- hope to help out1 xo, Anna

My two daughters love dresses and I'm looking forward to make your Paper Fan-dresses for them.
I agree with Natalie, dresses for 6 or 7 years old are either grey or black, not to mention too "grown up"

  20. What a pretty dress. I'm new to sewing, but would love to try and make this for my little girl. Will you be mentioning which fabric you used for this project? Also, will I be able to source them in the UK, and if not, are there suppliers in the US who would be able to ship?
Really looking forward to making this.
Thank you (& Janome) for sharing such a beautiful project.

I've been making cute little square neck dresses for the girls who live at the orphanage where our 3 sons started their lives. Now!I can make some more with this pattern! Just gotta save up for fabric. I've been purchasing it from the quilt shop since it is nice and sturdy and will last a long time. I'll be so excited to try out your pattern. The girls (40+) will love them!

Hi from Colorado! It was great to spend a day with a person who really lives in a life that has veins of color and creativity running all through it. There really is something spectacular to see in everything. Sometimes I forget. Thanks for turning my inner eyes on again. Lyn

Hi Ladies....I too had difficulty in downlaoding page 8. My husband then tried on his computer and it all downloaded but did not print. He looked into it and it looks like if you have adobe version 9 it won't print. seems like the solution is to download version 8 and you should be able to read it and print it. Thanks Anna for a gorgeous pattern. Can't wait to try it.

  38. I'm partway through sewing this dress and have 2 questions: first, I don't see any start/stop dots on the back bodice pattern. Second, when/how do you sew together the front skirt pieces. The instructions skip that. Thanks, so fat it looks pretty cute and I'm using a Good Folks and Garden Party fabric combo.

  39. Loving this latest dress Anna! Any idea when the All Set pattern collection comes out? I'm dying to get it!

  40. Jennifer O- you are totally right about the dot! When I exported the pattern to the pdf for a second time to try and avoid folks having any issues with downloading, I think I inadvertently used an earlier take on that page. The dot, simply marks where on the neckline you can begin and end the understitching, but it does not matter exactly where you stop and start, just know that it is hard to get all the way to each end because of the turn in the back bodice.

Regarding the skirt assembly question, that is Step 1 and 2 of the "Assemble & Finish Skirt" section.

I will amend the pattern pdf draft in the morning to include the DOT :)

Hope this helps and sorry for any inconvenience :)

    xo, Anna

    1. Thanks for this update on the "dot"! I just downloaded the pattern this week and am almost finished sewing a Valentine dress for my sweet girl. Couldn't find the dot! Thought I'd check here before just judging a start/stop.

LOVE how easy this pattern is and how delightful! Thank you!

  41. Oh my goodness, this is absolutely lovely!!! Thank you so much for sharing! I know how busy you are, but I hope you will consider adding a photo of it into SewSet.

SewSet is a brand new on-line sewing pattern & tutorial search engine meant for the individual designer. I would be honored to have this included in the directory! All of your patterns are simply fantastic!

Thank you so much for your consideration, and for sharing yoru hard work with us. This dress is just stunning!

  42. This is gorgeous - thanks so much for sharing.

I too am having trouble though - all pages show on screen no worries but when I print, pages 7 and 9 don't print at all??

I've tried printing just these pages but still no luck - any advice??

  43. Thanks for your response! I must have misplaced the page with the skirt back and skirt finishing directions. I wondered if that was the case. I'm glad I'll be able to finish this weekend!

Where can I find those adorable buttons?

  45. Hi Karen- I don't know what else to recommend- I have heard from many that can view and print, including us from 3 diff. computers here. I think what I may do is create two pdf files. One for instructions, and one for the pattern to see if that helps. It is a large file, and I am not sure why there are issues with the pattern pages for some. Someone also suggested using a different version of Acrobat Reader (an earlier one) and it worked for them..... hope this helps, and hope to offer separate files here soon, but might be Monday- xo, Anna

  46. Whew! I came on here specifically because I couldn't find the dots. ;)

Thank you for this gorgeous, yet simple pattern. I'm putting one together for my soon to be 2 year old niece. My youngest girl is 7 and I hope to make one for her too.

  47. Hi Anna
there might be an obvious answer to this question but I do not know it and I do not want to so something wrong. anyway, am I allowed to make a few (10-15) of your baby in the hood jackets and sell them at my local baby store if I give your pattern credit? or is this illegal.
    thanks!

  50. What about the ribbon sewn on the bottom? Is that included in the pattern - I haven't seen it. I'm fairly new at sewing and need things spelled out. Ha! :)

  54. I am in the process of making this cute dress for two of my granddaughters but I'm a bit stuck. On the "attaching skirt to bodice" step 4 do you make the fold on the 1" mark that you had us do? I'm just not seeing what you mean on that step. Also, do you attach the right back to left back w/ a seam or do you just finish the edges?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I stumbled upon your blog and fantastic dress today and have printed of the pattern with no problems at all, from adobe, almost finished it, didn't quite understand(my fault entirely!) how to attach skirt to bodice so winged it my own way and love it already! thank you so much Anna Maria for taking the time and trouble to share with us :) B x
