Snowday(s)

snowday

And just like that, winter arrived. I don't remember the last time we got snow before Christmas, but at least its one wish we can now cross off the list.

Booted, gloved, layered, frosted, hot cocoa-ed, Chexmixed, loud kids were not part of yesterday's studio plan. It is now part of today's plan. Yet the word plan for what the day will likely become, is silly. This one always finds her chair though, right under my nose as I work. This studio, with the garage underneath, gets quite cold (9 degrees outside, last check!). Being in the business of fabric and quilts comes pretty lucky. She's nestled under her new favorite, which is another version of the Love Emblem.

A quick word to say thanks to my friends at Delish Magazine for sharing our little Q&A in their lovely Winter edition online mag. I really enjoyed our chat, which likely means the feature may document me rambling, but if you're putting off anything, this should help you do that for about 10 minutes.

Okay, I might pretend like I'm a good mom for a bit and make a batch of loukoumades to rise while the kids are still konked out on the playroom floor.
Stay warm, xo, Anna

  6. You just raised my heart rate!
We went to our first Greek Festival this summer... it was fun, especially when our daughter was eager and brave enough to join a dance lesson in front of the masses. But the other good memory has tortured me a bit: We ate a delicate honeyed pastry, and I have been dreaming of it ever since!
I suppose I could have scoured the Internet for it, but I just love that I have discovered it from you! Now, if we could only get it to snow here too, then we'd have double Christmas magic!
Thank you Anna Maria, for a year of colorful inspiration and this honey-sweet wish come true!

  8. My kids keep asking who keeps getting our snow (we live in CT). We have gotten nothing and normally it would be 10 inches by now. Now I know what to tell them :)

  13. Anna,

It was a rare pleasure to get to speak to you!

I am pretty spoiled -- being a journalist affords me the access to people whose work and values I admire. I found your words about parenting resonated with me, and as a new mom I enjoyed the perspective of a mom wit lots of kids! This, of course, was in addition to the chat about your creative inspiration and business acumen...

Thank you for the opportunity, and keep on doing what you do so well!! We at Delish love you.

    Warmly,
    Tamara

  17. I just want to thank you for being so forthright about the ways your kids & personal life impact / distract from your work plans sometimes. Even though I'm not a mom, hearing that others are derailed when working from home is very reassuring.

  18. Cool article! And love seeing your lil' darlin' snuggled up in that gorgeous quilt. This time of year, you can often find all of us swaddled up in something or other, as our den is a chilly room.

  20. Just wanted to drop in and say that I just ran out of some very cute recipe cards that I'd found at Meijer maybe a year or so ago? Wanting to get more, I turned them over to see if there was a company name on them so I could order more... There your name was! Funny to think that I've been reading your blog and using these awesome recipe cards and never knew the connection. :)

  22. The loukomades look delish! I'm half Greek, but I don't have any Greek relatives around to have taught me how to cook all the delicious foods. I think I need to just teach myself.
(I spoke briefly to your mom at Quilt Market--I noticed that she has a long Greek name like I do.)
