You have to be the sweetest bunch of blog readers. Mean it. What a soft cradle my thoughts rested in as I read all your comments and relived all your experiences with you. Some days go by without a hitch. Other days you're stopped in your tracks and question something as simple and seemingly normal as putting your child on a school bus. On a bus? Are you kidding? What I am thinking? And thats how it goes. Feeling assured and feeling horrified all together in a busy mind.
Anyway, let's concentrate on the soft, gentle and fluffy for now shall we? Oh good, thank you. I made cupcakes for a photo shoot this weekend (well okay, I dreamed up the photo shoot thing in the middle of stirring the batter to add to the why-I-HAVE-to-make-cupcakes-list) and I wanted to tell you that if you haven't tried Alicia's most wonderful Cloudburst frosting, stop what you are doing right now and do so. Soooo good. I'm pretty sure they are just about gone and I made them less than 24 hours ago. Anyway, the frosting is just yellow-y white enough that the pink that resulted from just a teeny tiny drop of red dye was the perfect shade of pale coral-pink to sit next to the new linens I was shooting (oh my goodness, have I told you yet? They're here if ya wanna see). So I was tickled pink, I tell you. Not sure one could be tickled coral.
I managed to save 3 for you as I warned the kids that these are for mommy's work. Don't let them sit there long, or I'll have to work on them.
love your pal, Anna
Those looked amazing! I just read your post about your daughter and the bus. I was 9 months pregnant with my 3rd when my older two were in 1st and 2nd and one day my son got off the bus but not my daughter. He said "I don't know where she is can I have some cookies and milk?" AHHHHHHHHHH! Asked the bus driver if she saw a little girl in a red dress get on or off the bus? "ahh? I guess not." Gee, thanks for your help. Called the school..."oh, yeah her entire class missed their busses there here waiting to be picked up by parents." Oh, thank you so much for calling me and letting me know at 3:30 instead of waiting for me to call at 4:05 frantic and about to give birth on the driveway.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the new linens. Oh- so gorgeous! Well done girl! I haven't had my breakfast yet, and I tell ya- I could demolish one of those cupcakes...LOL :)
ReplyDeleteThe cupcakes look scrumptious! The pink frosting turned out beautiful. Love those fabrics on the side!
ReplyDeleteThe aprons and towels are beautiful, and the prices are really reasonable. Thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteGot the email over the weekend about the lovely new linens and the yummy aprons! The colors are scrumptious and I love the prices - so very family affordable! Thank you for that one! Cupcakes for breakfast?...but of course!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, they look absolutely heavenly and they're just what I need today!
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the photoshoot. I've been wondering this as I read your blog, Alicia's and other published artists. Having been in the publishing business I find it curious that you are required to do your photography. Doesn't the publisher do this? Understand I'm old and possibly things have changed since I was involved in such activities!
- Suzanne, the Farmer's Wife
Yummy scrummy, Anna Maria! The cupcakes and the aprons (and the fabrics)!!!! So glad your girlie is safe. I can only imagine your horror when she did not show up with her brothers. Happy monday!! I wanna go make some cupcakes now.....they'll have to be Gluten free in this house. wahhhh, off to have fun in the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteHi there Suzanne, thanks for your nice words, and to answer your question. This particular shoot was for some linens that I designed that I'm including in my online shop, so I am in charge of my own photography for that. The company that produced the linens has done their own catalog photography to sell the goods, however I wanted to do my own.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to my book photography, I can't speak for Alicia or other artist/authors, but in my case, in addition to being hired to do the writing for the book I was also hired to do the photography. I would not have had to take on that project, but I chose to, which means I also absorb the photo budget. it was not a requirement that went with the writing, just something I wanted to do....and something my publisher, thankfully, was happy for me to do. Again, I should stress I imagine everyone's reasons and experiences are different. All my clients have their own system of promotion, but I often add my own perspective on marketing my goods, particularly for my webshop. The fun benefits being able to share some snapshots and process with my readers!
Thanks for asking :) xo,AM
(and anyone who has virtual cupcakes for breakfast is far from being "old")
I agree. The linens are beautiful. I only hope there are some left when I get next month's money. *S*.....Seems like they would FLY out of your store.
ReplyDeleteAM,
ReplyDeleteYour linens and aprons are SOOO CUTE!! I love them all and the price is so reasonable. I must order me some today, but which to choose? hmmm
Oh also the half aprons do they wrap all around? The pics make it see as so. Thanks love the blog and your designs are sooo stinkin' cute. :-)
Alicia's recipe for frosting is the one I have always used for Red Velvet cake. It is (in my opinion) the best frosting ever, and Red Velvet cake isn't even half as good without it. I've never tried it on regular cake, but it makes perfect sense! So happy you are back to posting a little more often--I miss you when you are so busy:)
ReplyDeleteYummy! I'm amazed that even three are left.
ReplyDeleteI *need* some of those dish towels and an apron. I've restrained myself for about 12 hours, but not sure how much longer I can hold out.
Mmmmm gooood, thanks for the cupcakes. I was having coffee and toast but, now I want to run and stick my finger in the can of frosting that's in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteGot the email over the weekend. Love the aprons and towels :)
I got my email too this weekend and really enjoyed the new line!
ReplyDeleteI had cupcakes this morning for breakfast too~my daugther had her 5th Birthday party this weekend!
Thanks for the link for the recipe...I will love to try them!

ReplyDeletedear anna,
ReplyDeletei am just catching up on your last few posts...how you write about your children and the love you have between you...it invites me to think about how i do want to be a mom some day soon...thank you for that. (so glad isabella is okay!)
and these cupcakes...they look so yummy!!!
Oh, Anna Maria, I love, love, love your color combos. Will you be my decorator? I will definitely be ordering me up some of those kitchen items. Can't wait for the pillows, rugs, etc. Nerm
ReplyDeleteNo way!! These kitchen linens are so cute!!!! I've enlisted help with decorating my kitchen, so now I might have to inform them of some color revisions to make these cute things work!!!! Your post was a sweet spot on an otherwise sad day (Craig's Grandma died last night). Thanks for always cheering me up...even on your bad days!
ReplyDeleteThose sure are pretty cupcakes, I've banged my nose 3.7 times on my computer screen trying to get to them......they look irresistible ...*BANG* make that 4.7 times.
ReplyDeleteI saw the cupcakes in the newsletter too. I thought, "boy its been a while since I've had a good cake with good frosting" Thanks for the recipe, I'll have to check it out. Lovely new kitchen line too! Are you selling it exclusively in your shop? ~jen~
ReplyDeleteHi Jen-the kitchen goods will be sold at independent retailers nationwide, but I don't have any "find" info for that at this point. I do hope to be able to add that to my FIND page on my website soon.
ReplyDeletexo,AM
Got the news on your aprons and linens, yesterday from emailist - went right to the site and they are so cute - good thing I have a Birthday in April and there's Mother's Day and and and I guess I will need them to bake and eat the cupcakes. The new line is really great - cupcake cheers to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me that I need to make some cupcakes my self :) I meant to leave a comment on your last post about your daughter. As soon as I read it, I knew exactly how you felt in that moment. I dropped off my oldest daughter for her ballet class and just went right next door to the book shop. 45 min later I went to pick her up, when I noticed that the studio was a bit dark. I went in, and only the secretary was there! She said that there wasn't class today. Talk about wanting to cry and throw up all at once!! As it turned out she got a ride from another mom and she took her to my husbands work. This was before cell phones mind you. I ran with my six month old daughter on my hip to my husbands job. There sat my ballerina waiting with her dad. My heart must have been beating out of my chest. Just two days earlier there was a little girl that had been kidnapped, so you can imagine where my mind went. My daughter told me that she asked the mom this.." You're not going to steal me are you?"
ReplyDeleteMy heart went out to you when I read your story, I know that sick feeling!
Your newest linens are so adorable by the way.
This is a couple of posts ago- but I think you should be on the Martha show again with those fabric drawer pulls! What a great studio accessory. ~jen~
ReplyDeleteOOOoooooo! I LOVE the linens!! My mouth is WATERING looking at the cupcakes....I think I may have to dream up a reason to make cupcakes as well!
ReplyDeleteThose cupcakes are awesome looking .. is it bad that I am eating a brownie while looking a them??? Double calories?
ReplyDeleteJen R
Cupcakes just make me smile, and boy do those look YUMMY!!
ReplyDeleteLove the new items, some perfect gifts for the MOM's in my life...
Thanks :)

dana welsh
Oh AM!
ReplyDeletei saw your new linens the other day, and i can't wait to purchase some. finally something on here that i can afford to buy, so i have to scoop them up soon before everyone else realizes!!
Dear Anna Marie.....I read your tale of horror and it hit so very close to home! My granddaughter is autistic and takes the bus home from nursery school. One day the bus was an hour late and we all went into panic mode!!!!! Come to find out the bus driver was a substitute and couldn't find the street, but OMG....every imaginable scenario had passed through my head! Margo doesn't speak so there is no way for us to know what she went through:( So glad you little one came tripping in the door:D
ReplyDeleteI just want to reach out and stick my finger in that frosting and take a taste...love your new linens too!
ReplyDeleteAnna, thinking of you and I read your story last week about your daughter sleeping on the bus. I know how you were feeling but my boys haven't even gone to school yet. I have the panic mom feeling though. I think the school that my son will be going to won't have a bus come to my house and so I have to drive him to Kindergarten everyday and I'm actually looking forward to it. I hope that doesn't happen again and that her siblings will "protect" her.
ReplyDeleteThose look super yummy! Love the fabric too!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty cake plate too. The piece of furniture it's on looks very nice........Stacy
ReplyDeleteHeaven on a plate! Thanks, I've bookmarked that frosting recipe. :)
ReplyDeleteCloudburst frosting and Hershey's deep dark chocolate cake---how happy I was when I looked up the recipes to find that they were different names for my mother's old standbys: Black Magic Cake (almost exactly the same ingredients as Hersheys except butter instead of oil) and Ermine Icing (almost the same as Cloudburst, except vanilla flavoring instead of almond and regular sugar instead of confectioners). These were the birthday cakes of my childhood. I think the black magic cake recipe came from my aunt in Pennsylvania, and the ermine icing may be from the old Joy of cooking. I try to reproduce them, but they never look as pretty as my Mom's. Taste almost as good, though!
ReplyDeleteCammy
gosh your blog is a breath of fresh air right now!
ReplyDeleteAs if you needed a reason to make yummy cupcakes?? But, oh my how I would love to sit down for a cuppa with those -- they look yummy. Almost as yummy as the new linens! The school bus thing was hard to deal with, but even when you are there they can do the darndest things (we won't mention what mine managed to do with one of my stitch markers for my knitting).
ReplyDeletehi.. i love your blog! you are such a great inspiration to me!!!
ReplyDeleteso this is why i tagged you!
