Xristos Anesti!

I hope that you all had a beautiful Easter weekend! We traveled a short ways to my parents' house on the river in east Tennessee to join my brother George, my sister Eleni, and their darling families. Ten little sets of cousin feet stomped in happiness all through the house for three days as we hunted eggs, ate cake, wiped away sleepiness for a midnight church service and celebrated a beautiful Easter together. Those bright and beautiful eggs were meant to be shared with you last week. We had a bit of a snag on Thursday. Our precious Juliana was a passenger in her friend's car when they were hit head-on by a drunk driver.

It was the tearful phone call no parent wants to get, and by the grace of God she and her friend both walked away a little banged up, dizzy, but no broken bones. I've never been so happy to see bruises on her because the biggest marks left on her were from the seatbelt she thankfully was wearing. Everything you would imagine went through my head and heart but mostly we are all feeling very fortunate. An off-duty fireman just happened to witness the whole thing and was able to rush over and call the police and be with them until they arrived. The oncoming drivers had more serious injuries, but non-life threatening, and were taken to the hospital. That's all I have to say there.

Juliana's been sore and tired since it happened but is her resilient, funny self. We even managed to steal away from the crowded family house on Saturday afternoon for some last minute Easter dress shopping. I think it was a necessary, joyful time for the two of us alone. With each frock she tried on my nerves settled more and I've never been so happy to be with her. Her dress is a beautiful blue that matched the little bruise on her precious cheek.

I spent lots of time on my parents' floor, amid the happy chaos of cousins, finishing the Lollipop quilt. Another grounding and calming way to feel safe and at ease. All the light that streams through those river reflected windows gave me a brilliant spot to work in. It most perfectly represented the Light we received this particular Easter. I hope you caught a glimmer of it too. xo,AM

  4. Oh, Anna Maria! I am sooo glad to hear that your precious Julianna is well and safe! Sounds like your weekend is just what the doctor ordered. Family, security, safety, comfort, bliss! I'm so glad you got to just sit and sew away on your sparkly quilt! Can't wait to see the finished product!!!! Julianna's dress is lovely, just like she is.......and the eggs in the bright pink egg holder are yummilicious!!!! Love it all!!!! We got hit by a drunk driver (kid) this fall and he nearly missed our youngest baby's car door/seat!!!! My nerves were a wreck for days, let me tell you! Nothing like a bit of peace and quiet and a quilt to work on!!! Hang in there, and take good care of yourselves! Love, Laurie~

  11. Wow! So sorry to hear about the accident, but I'm glad she's okay. My husband and I were in a similar accident a couple years ago and I know how traumatic that can be! Love her up!

  12. Thanks for all the support, and Kim I thought of you, as I think I remember your daughter enduring an accident. Difficult moments when you realize how fragile everything is. Sorry to all if this is too personal. The things we've busied ourselves with in the little aftermath, dress shopping & handiwork, seemed like a pertinent joy to share.
    Your kindness is so appreciated.
    with love, Anna

  13. How awful that your dear one was in an accident. My son and daughter were in an accident in my son's car when they were in high school-someone ran a red light. I can't tell you how sick it made me to get that call. I think I had Post Traumatic Strss Syndrome thinking about it for a year.

Glory be to to God! that Juliana is safe!

Your eggs are beautiful. Mine were, RED! very RED, our Priest asked that each one be wrapped in tulle with a white ribbon.....all 100. They were beautiful sitting there in the basket at midnight. The Tsoureki was equally awesome, as was the cheeseburger I had at 3 am :)

What an Easter blessing to have your daughter safe after such an experience. And it seems like the enveloping warmth of family was the perfect antidote to that kind of craziness.

  24. My heart was in my throat when I read what happened to your daughter and her friend. My son is 16 and has had his permit for the required 6 months --he's begging us to let him take his driver's test for his license, but we're dragging our feet .... I'm not feeling quite confident enough in his driving abilities. However, many of his friends do have their licenses and he often gets rides with them (many times without our permission -- and we've caught them quite a few times without seatbelts on) -- you just have to pray that the kids your kid is riding with is a safe and responsible driver -- and the other people on the road are also safe and responsible ! Glad to hear your daughter and her friend are OK .

Wow... what an Easter miracle for you. I'm so glad she only has bruises--I can't imagine the fear and the pain for both of you. It is every parent's nightmare and it takes my breath away just thinking about it! Blessings on you all as you heal. There's always more to these things than the physical.

And such a wonderful way for you all to recover in the care of family and the joy of Easter. Hugs for you all! (And will you share sometime how to cover those eggs...oops as I typed that I realized they must be stuffed...how silly of me!)

  31. Wow, I was so glad to read that no serious harm came to your daughter. But I have to admit that a few tears sprung up while reading it. Luckily someone was watching out for the girls that day. Thank goodness!

And on another note, just wanted to say that everytime I see your prints they bring a smile to my face ... such joyful colors. :-)

  32. Anna, I am so glad to read that your daughter wasnt injured more than she was...although the emotional stuff is pretty traumatic.
All 6 of us were rear ended last June and are still getting medical care.
I hope I dont sound off but I hope you check into massage and chiropractic quickly for her so she doesnt have any complications from it.
I wasnt sure of the effectiveness of those two professions until I started seeing things coming up in my 5 children a month after our accident.
Maybe if I had started massage/chiro right after instead of waiting until we had complications we might not still be going 10 months later.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble just wanted to share my story of it so you can see how it can turn even if the injuries arent *seen*.

Glad you two had some alone time together.

Been meaing to say *I cant wait to get my hands on some Chocolate Lollipop fabric*.

Do you know when it will be available to the public? :o)

  42. AM, I simply cannot imagine how you must have felt, though i think i have a glimpse of what you feel now regarding how special our kids and our moments are. I get all choked up thinking about it! God has blessed you all.

On a lighter note, I went to www.wallies.com to check some things out. As i was just thinking that you should submit some designs i scrolled down to see the teacups which are undoubtedly yours. Is it true? Adorable.

    Take care,
