We are all taking deep breath after another here as we unpack the new bolts of Field Study Linen. I always get excited when new fabric arrives. But. This. Stuff. Oh it's heavenly. I will be back to talk more about the properties, wash/wear, as I always do when we welcome a new base cloth. So if you have questions about the linen, please leave them in the comments and I will address them all next week! I'll also share some sewing and stitching (maybe you've noticed my spring banner?) that we've been doing too, for a little inspiration. You guys are going to love this! We will have the shop loaded with all the yardage on Monday morning. The above palettes show digital art for the fabric, and not shots of the fabric itself. Which only barely do the gorgeous fabrics justice! The three palettes above in order are Charisma, Oil Painting, and Technicolor. more soon, xoxoA
Oh! I wish I sewed. I love the colors in the top set. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all - I love it!!! I have some in my hot little hands right now! I hope to make skirts galore with it - I'm sure you will cover it in your debrief - but mostly right now I am interested in washing and shrinkage.
ReplyDeleteEeek! So happy (fabric always makes me happy), and like everyone else, can't wait to get my hands on it! My question for you, Anna, is how does it do for clothing and quilts????!
ReplyDeletexoxo Achaia
You read my mind!
ReplyDeleteSold on the prints, but "what can I/should I do with linen?
Looking forward to your suggestions, hints, and advice.
They do look gorgeous!
I'm verklempt! Can hardly handle the excitement that just washed over me.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the feather design was my fav, but then I spied the moth silhouettes, amazing! Can't wait to see them!
ReplyDeleteK.x
I already ordered these absolutely gorgeous linens and I can't wait to see them in person:)
ReplyDeleteLove them all! I see a summer skirt in my future!
ReplyDeleteYea! These look so cool! I kept looking and thinking, "Oooo!" "Wow!" "Oh!" Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! Are the butterflies a panel? For handling, how tight is the weave? This question might not apply to anyone else, but I'm finishing up a quilt from your poppies in the rain print that will use wool batting (a first for me) and am a little worried about bearding. But I'd love for the back to be something wonderful to the touch, I was thinking flannel but linen would be lovely too. Would this be a tight enough weave to use with wool batting, do you think (sorry for the uber-specific question).
ReplyDeleteI love your header by the way, it's been making me so anxious to see this line!
I'd love to hear more about how well the fabric drapes. I'm most interested in apparel sewing and am more than excited to see your beautiful designs printed on linen/cotton and the rayons!
ReplyDeleteAlso, does a linen/cotton blend wrinkle more/less than straight linen?
Interested in the weight and drape - would love to use this for apparel! I'm also curious about the scale of the prints, but I know we'll get that when we can see the actual fabric. Love these!
ReplyDeleteMe gonna die now...
ReplyDeleteI can barely breath and my heart missed a beat: your colors and art on linen! I'm in love.

I really love the peacock feather one. I can see a bag it there somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI'll bite. Since linen doesn't strike me as soft next-to-the-skin stuff, what are projects for which linen would be best suited? Also, I spin fibers on a spinning wheel and knit. Linen enjoys a reputation in knitting (and crochet) as being stiff initially, but softening up with repeated wear. Would you say the same applies to linen fabric?
ReplyDeleteI'm wary of linen because I've discovered I really like voile now (as opposed to quilting cotton, which used to be my fave before discovering what your line of voile does to a quilt - WOW!).
WoW!!I am in LOVE!!!They are TDF!!!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to working with these. I especially LOVE the feathers !!
ReplyDeleteWohooo! I LOVE them all! Like all what you are doing, Anna! You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeletethank you mommy! xoxoxox
DeleteSooo excited - I had already decided I am covering all my dining chairs in the oil painting feathers (to add to the rest of the AMH fabrics that are all over my house!!) so I am looking forward to hearing about whether this linen would suit that sort of use (please say it does!!).
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful beautiful fabrics... thanks for what you do! Makes the world a more beautiful place.
Melanie.
I would also like to use it to cover dining chairs that we frequently use. I've seen this fabric listed as Home Decor fabric on many websites. How long do you think it would withstand wear and tear without fading or tearing on a dining chair? The chairs are rather large and I hate to reupholster all of them and the fabric not be designed to withstand frequent use. Please help! I love this pattern!!!
DeleteYep - I'm with you, and I also noticed it being called "home dec". I did think I would treat the surface of each piece of fabric with a scotchguard or waterproofing type of spray in an attempt to protect them from the multitude of small people who live in this house and insist on wiping their hands on my chairs!!
DeleteMelanie.
love the feather print in the first colourway!
ReplyDeleteI love to wear wide leg linen drawstring pants. Any chance you will release such a pattern?
ReplyDeletejust a guess, but is the title of the post a reference to "they might be giants" la la la la lemon?
ReplyDelete;-) how did you know
Delete(there's also a favorite Bert & Ernie bit.... lalala lamp post)
Beautiful! I'm seeing it listed on fabric sites as Home Decor, what weight is this? Is it for apparel or is it for upholstery? Drape, hand, and weight are what I am most curious about. If I can make a shirt out of it for myself or my 2 year old daughter I will be ordering is very soon! Thanks for you your beautiful designs!
ReplyDeleteI love these fabrics!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOooh so lovely! I can't wait to see the scale of some of these designs!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to hear how you created the banner piece! I have a non-new-fabric question, though, if you're willing to indulge me. I am hoping to purchase a machine for my daughter's upcoming bday -9!. She's more than ready, but I think my Bernina is more machine than I'm willing for her to use. I am considering a Janome, but wanted an opinion of a good first machine. Think mainly straight stitching, a few decorative stitches, but no embroidery. She'll be doing bags, doll clothes, and eventually skirts and dresses for herself. Our nearest Janome dealer is a good hour or more away, so I'd like to be more informed when I show up. And it goes without saying that I'm not willing to spend $$$$ on a 9 year old. Basic, basic, basic.
ReplyDeleteYour banner design is very cheery and definitely sings a springtime tune.
ReplyDeleteThe new linen designs are quite lovely...sort of psychedelic in a sweet mood. Like other folks who've commented, I love to know more about the touchy feely aspects of your linen fabric. I am a long time linen fan, from handkerchief through Irish linen weights.
Best wishes.
must have butterfly moth thingies...must have feathers....okay just must have
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! We can't wait to work with these!
ReplyDeleteI'm dying to make a dress out of Ghostwing. Can you tell us if the moth shapes lie parallel or perpendicular to the selvage so I know how much fabric to buy?
ReplyDeleteI love that you are doing so many different fabrics. As a seamstress who makes clothes it would be most helpful to see what the full width of the printed fabric looks like -- it's hard to pick a fabric for a dress or skirt or coat when you can only see a digital image or a snippet of the fabric. So, yes, pictures of all. I'm in the midst of making a lovely spring jacket from your Field Study saffron velveteen ...
ReplyDeleteIt's all just beautiful. Maybe my favorite as of yet! Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh my...beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteJennie
