("sinister swarm" print detail in progress)
Hoooa No. Man. Thanks for all the moth info. I think. Ick. No really, I'm glad to take a sampling of all the common denominators in those comments and figure out our plan of attack (defense?).
In other maybe not so unrelated-to-icky-moth news, I am here to talk more about boys. The boys I currently have in the house- 39, 13, 11 and 2 - keep me exposed to everything from heart-achingly wonderful to utterly disgusting. You can make your own assumptions about that limited information. I knew enough about boys when I was first pregnant with Roman to know better than to actually want another one. After all I was (and still am) married to one and I was (and still am) raising two others (errhhh- am I raising all of them....?) But I did really, really hope that he was a boy before I knew. I dreamed that he was. I felt like I had figured boys out and was finally over the fact that I can't put dresses on them. It was like a whole new appreciation of boy personhood was opened up to me. Boys are wonderful. Just as beautiful as girls in their own way, and warm your heart in an entirely different way. I am so lucky to have them. Smelliness and all.
Speaking of lucky, here is our winner of Sewing for Boys + some cuts of my new flannel:
8:09 PM Jamie said...I have had my eyes on this book from the time the ladies announced its impending arrival on their blog about a year ago. Add this to your amazing flannel fabrics and who wouldn't be in line for that?
Congratulations Jamie, and email us with your home address to claim your loot!
Shop news! We've just added the Loulouthi Needleworks and my new Rose Era linens. I am so pleased with how both collections turned out, and didn't expect that both of these cross stitch inspired groups would be launching at the same time. A happy accident.
back to the drawing board, smooch, AM
(ps. does anyone recognize this post title...name that movie? Its my favorite movie line of all time and sums up the life of a mother (especially of boys) like nothing else. Are you cussing with me?)
Yes! I am in love with this new design Anna! Can't wait to see more :)
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH! I love that line love that movie. We watched it every day in this house for the first 6 months of this year.
ReplyDeleteDo I get a prize for naming it?
"Am I being flirted with by a psychotic rat?"
also, I'm really excited about your moths. Such a cool starting point. Can't wait for the collection!
If you are a Wes Anderson fan, maybe one day you should do a Life Aquatic-inspired collection. I'm just sayin... That little rainbow seahorse? The jaguar shark? It could be genius.
Oh yeah, LOVE that movie... it conjured George Clooney immediately...
ReplyDeleteOh, please, please keep that name for the moth print "sinister swarm". That's just too perfect.
ReplyDeleteWe love "the Fox" around here. We spend way too much time trying to perfect that little "click click" noise that me makes with his mouth. Oh lord, I'm doing it as I type!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adored this movie!
ReplyDeleteI only have girls and I think it might be nice (but scary and messy and smelly etc) to have a boy or two also. On the "to do" list!! ;-)
Lovely moths. Might even get me to like them...a bit.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Mr Fox is up there with my favorite movies... ever.
As my baby boy is preparing to leave the nest for college, I am right there with ya about boys. They are the best.
You can even make moths look nice! Gotta love little boys, too! When I was pregnant with my son, someone told me that little boys love their mommas, and truer words have never been spoken!
ReplyDeleteThat is sooo funny. The kids always joke about that movie by saying, "What the cuss?" when they're trying to be funny. Congrats on the new additions to your shop!
ReplyDeleteHotbox!
ReplyDeleteI love that fabric! So great. Can't wait. When do you expect to have the patterns up for the art student bag you blogged about?
ReplyDeletei am excited about the design and potential colorways-- anything with a yellow/orange/green colorway?
ReplyDeleteI am so lost....are you pregnant again with a little girl??? Help! Oh and I love the moth colors!
ReplyDeleteNo Emma.
ReplyDeleteHaha, sorry. Just reminiscing on having little boys :)
LOVE that movie... that's one of my favorite lines. :)
ReplyDeleteBoys are stinky, yes. Three in our house (including the one I married, who is not quite as stinky as the younger two, thank goodness!).
Love Felicity Fox, and of course Mister Fantastic himself...
ReplyDeleteThe print detail: wow! It is gorgeous.
better not create a rat print :-)
ReplyDeletebeautiful...the moths and the boys
Why's your cousin such a wet sandwich? :D
ReplyDeletewho's my cousin? :)
ReplyDeleteDo you have any suggestions on sewing for slightly older boys? I am having a hard time finding cool patterns for my 8 year old. He still wants me to sew for him (and hold my hand when we're walking down the street). I'm in full support of both those activities for as long as possible...
ReplyDeletethanks, Leah
looking forward to this "sinister swarm" fabric!. It's great seeing it come to life. Thank you for showing the process.
ReplyDeleteHehe, from the same movie. That line makes my husband and I laugh. No offense to any of your cousins! :)
ReplyDelete(it's during the science lab scene)
They're finally here! (the needleworks). So happy. And can we get a preview of some of those delicious flannels? I am on edge waiting for those! Sorry for my abrupt impatience. Please take this as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteI personally enjoy "What the cuss!" I love the way the moths are turning out!!
ReplyDeleteBy chance does anyone know if the needlework prints will be sold anywhere else besides AM's shop?
ReplyDeletePS
my boy and I LOVE the fox!
I too read that as you being pregnant but very glad I read the other posts before a blurted out Congrats!! Whew, that would have been embarrassing. I also love the name sinister swarm! How does one gets to pick the names...like the person who gets to pick paint colors. I want to be that person.
ReplyDeleteOMG! The moth print is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI have boys too and they're wonderful!! They make me laugh everyday and amaze me! Its nice to read your comment about yours, thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteThe incredible Mr. Fox is brilliant! I'm so happy to see you are a fan.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna Maria, my daughter who is 11 and 3/4, :) Is dying to try your needleworks, but she wants the one at the top of the blog.. Did you just draw that one up or is that pattern also for sale? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteMechelle
mechellehyatt@yahoo.com
Hi Mechelle, that butterrfly embroidery up top is one that I am working on for a pattern... sorry for the wait!
ReplyDeletexo, Anna

Back to moths...I told you that we had them, too. An exterminator told me to get rid of all webs and up at the edges of the kitchen there were little brown spots- those are future moths so scrub those away. He also told me they will get behind pictures and lay eggs. I cleaned everything last night and sure enough, found two moths behind pictures. UGH.
ReplyDeleteHope you are getting rid of yours, too. xo, Cheryl
p.s. as for today's post...I have a saying:
ReplyDelete"Boys will be boys and men will be boys, too."
xo, Cheryl
Love this post, I have 4 boys (plus hubby) who are 17,15,13, and 9 and then 2 girls who are 11 and 2. When our first daughter was born and we wer told "It's a girl." I looked at my husband and said, "What are we going to do with a girl?" I had become such a boy mama. I'm so glad I have both. They are both so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI so agree about boys. I class myself as a very clever mummy having had one of each (would have loved more but not so lucky in that department). And as much as I love my little girl for all her girly ways, my little boy is just a delight. I never thought I wanted boys and was a little underwhelmed for a millisecond when he was born but he's just the best gift in the world. Now....don't get me started on moths in the cupboard. Oh goodness gracious I HATE them! The stories I could tell would make you curdle....so we'll leave it there!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 boys - I love having boys! Is there anything better than being guarded in the grocery store by 2 pint sized Jedi Masters? I think not! I purchased "Sewing for Boys" as soon as it hit the shelves. My boys picked out the race car mat, the PJ's and the robe as their must have's. Going over to check out the Needlework's products now! Can't wait to try out AMH linen.
ReplyDelete- Liz
I hate all this boys versus girls stuff and you can see it a bit in the comments. I remember someone telling me (who already had a little girl like I did) after her son was born, that there was nothing like it and nothing compared! Well, I just felt sorry for her daughter and basked in the glow of knowing that I adored my own little girl more than any one could think possible and this woman was unfortunate for not being able to fully appreciate her daughter. It was also tactless of her - should I have agreed with her?! I was so contented, I only needed my daughter to be who she was. I had friends with boys or girls, not many with both. My daughter was a mummie's girl actually, so that Daddy thing is a myth too. I think that everyone wanted boys in the past but somehow and for some reason boys are getting bad press now, which I think is rubbish. You know what, both can be adorable, both can be a pain at times too. There are no generalisations to be made. It is hurtful to everyone to make horrible comments based on the gender of a child. I only had one child and she is all and more I ever wanted. If I had a boy I know I would feel the same. I expect it IS different but equal. No apologies needed for either.
ReplyDeletePeople do not do what you do (I appreciate you are not picking boys over girls, just taking the chance to tell how lovely they are - and why not?) and celebrate their little people for who they are, no they use what they have to score points off other people. It is horrible! Sometimes it is subtle at other times it is very aggressive. Sometimes it is meant to be funny. It isn't.
Boys ARE wonderful and girls ARE wonderful. No one is shortchanged either, if they don't have one or the other or both. You are lucky if you have any children of whatever gender.
Oh i love how you write. I had 3 girls before i scored a boy. I didn't realise how precious girls were (as in when they are adults & mummies) until some mums at preschool who only had sons said "you're so lucky, your girls won't leave you, boys, they marry some other woman & go to her family". Oh, i was always very generous with my children with both my in-laws & my family.
ReplyDeletePretty sure i did ruin my mother-in-law by marrying her ONLY son, where/ who i could i ever make up for that??
I tell my son, when he sleeps "no woman will ever love you as much as me" insert an evil laugh, mwahhhaha. No, he'll have a happy life, but i won't be giving 'her' any of his beautiful childhood toys if i don't like her, enough said. Yay for daughters too, love Posie
I love, love, love this design and your colouring!! Beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the tips and the lovely inspiration.
today (friday, september 23) there is an article link on aol.com about getting rid of moths. tried to copy it for you here, but am not sure this is a live link:

One of my three GIRLS and my favorite movie. My youngest has a stuffed fox named none other than Ash Kristopherson....
ReplyDeleteYou know your daughters but your sons touch your heart.
ReplyDeleteBy accessorizing your older and much more classically cut Hermes Birkin with a much more currently fashionable handbag you’re able to bring those clothes into today’s style era. From Hermes Kellyto Valentino, the most up to date handbags are available in replica designer handbags type, therefore allowing the shopper to buy a fairly inexpensive Hermes Bags for each and every special Hermes Scarf. 2945abc45 1012
ReplyDeleteI just take a peek and I suddenly discovered your post. I enjoyed reading it and I find it impressive as well. Big thanks for sharing.
