The number of snow days where children do not attend school has been found to have a direct and consistent effect on the number of broken dishes in the house where those children spend their snow days.

What a pretty dish!! Snow days stink.
ReplyDeleteMessage brought to you by the Housewife Stuck at Home With Two Month Old Baby Because the Windchill Factor is -5.
Sad, poor broken dish! Crush it into smaller pieces and have them make a "whoops I broke it now let's make art" mosaic? ;D
ReplyDeleteOh! And it was such a cute dish, too!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, and such a beautiful dish it was too..
ReplyDeleteLove love love your blog btw :)
I agree with Tasha---make a mosaic. That is just too pretty to toss!
ReplyDeleteHaha!!! But I would also report (from Florida) that several cold and rainy days when you're homeschooling are also enough to make you want to break dishes. Especially when your kids keep saying, "It's cold and wet, but not cold enough to snow and be pretty!!!" Seriously. 100's of times a day... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteoh...what a pretty dish to become broken! Alas...I guess you'll just have to replace it with an even prettier one ;) It's tough to shop, but someone's got to do it!
ReplyDeleteToday wasn't even a snow day here, but despite it being zero degrees outside I trudged the kids to skate the ice rink so they wouldn't break each other :-) Spring can't come soon enough!
ReplyDeleteouch... that one had to hurt! It was so pretty! Hey, in your free time (yeah, I know: not funny)... in your free time you might want to consider making a mosaic table. I bet you would be amazing at it!
ReplyDeleteWord Verification sounds like what frustrated, snow bound mothers do or utter when another dish cracks: CRYPE
Oh darn! And what a pretty little bowl it was too!
ReplyDeleteI just texted hubby and said, "I hate snow days". I have my 3 teens and 3 extra, they are playing pool, and must be wrestling, because it sounds like elephants dancing upstairs. I'm guessing once the room clears and I have some time to look about, something will be broke. I do like hearing them laugh. I'm trying to work and I think I'm jealouse, I want an unexpected day off too!! That is/was a pretty dish!
ReplyDeleteand such a nice bowl too. Could you glue it back together and grow crocuses in it? I think they'd look really pretty.
ReplyDeletehmmm - we homeschool and break a ton of dishes. I never put that together before ;-) I was recently stuck home for 5 days w/ just my 4 youngest while the rest of the fam went to FL of all places & my boys broke a cup or jar every.single.day.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! But I am sorry about your adorable dish. May it rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteI love Tasha's idea! Your post just made me think about how most colleges don't give a lot of snow days because the residential students tend to get pretty rowdy and rough on the dorms. There might actually be something to that, if your evidence is anything to go by. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have had a ridiculous amount of snow days. Snow days also means living in close quarters and spreading the flu around the family. Hope Wednesday is pretty for our sit-n-sew!!
ReplyDeletehahahahahahah!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBetter broken dishes than broken bones, yes?
ReplyDeleteI think the first two snowdays of the year are fun and the rest should be outlawed.
hahaha lauren, I already thought of that, but admitting such would take attention away from how MUCH I AM SICK OF snowdays ;-P (but of course, break all the dishes, no bones!)
ReplyDeleteI once kept all of my broken dishes in a box to make something with them. I didn't and the box just pissed me off. I hope if you decide to save put it somewhere that you don't see it all of the time!!
ReplyDeleteHoly cats! How many snow days have you had?! I live in MN and have had 2 (I'm a teacher)! The dish was very pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE a snow day. We never get them, even though we get TONS of snow here every winter. I'm a teacher and my only child is 18, so it's safe to say a snow day would be a heck of a lot less work for me than for you!
ReplyDeleteMy friend in Oklahoma is having the same complaints. Wishing you many days of sunshine and school. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat post!I love your blog!!!2945abc45 0211
ReplyDeleteOh, I so agree! North Alabama is sick of snow days as well. But, luckily, we will have the opportunity to be equally sick of going to school in the summer to make up these days. I'm not going to have a single dish left...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the laugh this morning.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bowl that was.
"a further study has shown a significant increase in the amount of oxygen present in the lungs of Mothers whose children are home for repeated snow days, caused by the constant practice of taking long...slow...deep breaths in attempts to stay calm in the face of chaos " :) sorry about your broken dishes :(
ReplyDeleteSpring will be arriving soon!
I'm curious too about how many snow days you all have had in TN. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and despite our 18 inch blizzard in December (which fell on a Saturday), we've only had 1 snow day this year and that was due to wind chill temps.
ReplyDeleteI bet you could glue that pretty blue dish back together again :)
Anna, we have had 4 snow days north of Boston. I have made enough chocolate chip cookies and pancakes to last a lifetime. After the first one all the neighbors were out saying hello. Now we just grunt at each other ; )
ReplyDeleteNot ONLY dishes...we are beginning to wonder if our home will survive winter 2011?! Happy mosaic-making, now!---Trenna
ReplyDeleteI'm experiencing a spate of broken dishes as well- but I don't have snow days to blame them on:

Amen. Bring on Spring!
ReplyDeleteYep, mosaic!
ReplyDeleteYou are preaching to the choir honey...we have been off for 2 whole weeks. We are all sick of looking at each other.
ReplyDeleteHey Anna! I think a move to Michigan is in order. We have close to 3 feet on the ground and school's been canceled for only 1 day, for the Blizzard to end all Blizzards. No snow days for this teacher! :)
ReplyDeleteoh why couldn't they have broken an ugly bowl!...lol...i too am getting really tired of snow days that shut down only the school...all other aspects of the city manage to carry on...
ReplyDeleteplease spring come sooner!
Such a cute dish! Don't chunk it away, tuck it into one of your pot plants sideways!
ReplyDeleteSonia in cold snowy texas (but today we had near 70!)
i think the only advice i can give is to say, "ohmyhellityhooch" when another dish breaks.
ReplyDeletethat might make you feel better.
Oh I wished and wished that we could have snow days, but sadly in my childhood here in Auckland NZ not a speck of snow, ever, that I know of :(
ReplyDeleteHaha :) is there a connection between sunny days and broken hearts?
ReplyDeleteSo true!! I came home at the end of two different snow days to find broken dishes in the trash. I am grateful that my son is now 16 and can spend snow days by himself (and also grateful that he actually cleaned up the mess!!)
ReplyDeletePoor Anthropologie rice bowl!! And poor mommy!
ReplyDeleteWish we had some of your snow up here in Vancouver! But none of your lovely, broken dishes :(
ReplyDeleteThat rice bowl is pretty. Too bad it is broken.
ReplyDeleteI've had similar issues lately! WHY must it always be our super cute dishes? I'm down two Anthropologie mugs recently. Oh, the humanity!
ReplyDeleteHopping over from Rikrak.
