Where I snuck out

palm.springs

Sneaking back in after a weekend in Palm Springs helping my friend Heather teach a sewing workshop. It was so so so so hard. Jeff stop reading here. It was so so so so fun. I had no idea when I scheduled it with her in December that I would be coming out of one million seventeen snowdays and in dire need of mental repair. (And believe me, had I planned it before the class was booked, I would have told you about it.) The format was great, everyone brought their own projects and Heather and I each just flitted around helping where we could, offering advice, deciphering patterns, building muslins, and sometimes scribbling less that appropriate things on those muslins but all in the name of the perfect fit. (But I certainly did not pay a woman with a free pattern to march around the crowded pool wearing said muslin. No sir.) We were at the Ace the whole weekend, which was an experience in itself. I can't believe I didn't take my camera. Actually yes I can. To leave home, I walked down an icy hill at 6am in the dark with my luggage to get to our car which wouldn't make it up the night before. So yes, balmy Palm Springs was just slightly different than my current norm.

Despite the delicious food, stylish accommodations, groovy inhabitants, adult snowcones and sunny poolside settings my very favorite part was doing exactly what is shown above- helping Raven and 15 other lovely talented women geek out on some sewing detail.

Thank you Heather for asking me! And you promised to draw me on your blog, so I'm waiting, lady. And I don't care if you're still by the pool without me.

xo, AM

Anna Maria, I'm a big fan of yours and Heather's, and my friend Raven was soooo very excited about her planned weekend with the two of you. How very fun to log onto your site today to see a photo of the two of you together!!!

I am in awe of your talent and all you accomplish while still being a wife and mom to (six?) kiddos. Looking forward to what you'll be coming up with next!!

And, you came back home to another freakin' snow day! I'm not really a beach person, but I'm ready to find one, right NOW! Glad you got to go have some sew fun!

  13. Sounds Divine! would love a weekend away and to top it off sewing and two fabulous mentors!! Mean while I'm envious of the snow - here in Sydney it's been in the high 30C's, very high humidity and very very still (no breeze). Snow sounds great :)

  16. Oh, those mom breaks can be SOOOO required. Even though you were working, I can feel in your writing how much you enjoyed the weekend on your 'own'. My recommended prescription is for a minimum of 3 retreats per year. Just in case Jeff didn't stop reading and makes it down to here, he can blame me.

  19. oh my gosh. I can't decide whether you just ruined my day by telling me you were in my town and I didn't know it, or made my day by being in my town. I live here- I love you- I own every ounce of fabric you design and have built my little business around selling wares made with it- I would DIE to meet you and to take a class- would be on my bucket list. I am soooo bummed that you were here and I had no idea- I think I will be walking around half excited half dissapointed all day.

  21. What an awesome weekend (getaway)! Good for you mama for taking advantage of sun, sand and FUN!

Taking time for ourselves as women is something we don't do nearly as often as we should.

    Bravo Anna Maria :)

  25. Anna....thank you sooooo much for the free pattern....LOL! Mom will be posting video of me marching around the pool very soon. I really appreciate all your help fitting my top and teaching me that I can sew for my body type. I already purchased more fabric for another top!

My mom and I had a great time and really enjoyed meeting you and Heather!

    Hugs,
    Christine

  26. I went the next weekend and missed you but it looks like both weekends were just as amazing. Next time I think it should be a week long. And I second that weather comment. It's - 15 in Denver today, brrrr.
