My Sardinia Sweater

sardinia.3

I don't want to take it off. The temperatures being what they are, however, I will be taking it off. While this is definitely a perfect Summer sweater, I wouldn't call it a perfect Summer in Tennessee sweater (not sure there is such a thing) until perhaps the evening hours or indoors only. But this is going to be a perfect year-round layer. Happy. Happy.
sardinia.1.jpg

I made the medium size (pattern and yarn details here) and I feel like I could have made the small- though I wear a medium to a large (8-10) in most clothing items. I am pretty sure the linen yarn gives more, and therefore the overall is a bit stretchier and hitting longer than shown on the model in the book. But thankfully the open drop style and sleeve style lends itself to being really cool whether the fit is generous or abbreviated.

sardinia.2

One sweater for me.
Check.
Now for those baby pants.
Amanda is currently setting me straight there.

It looks just lovely on! And, I agree, there is no such thing as a summer sweater in the south. It's nice to be inspired to make things for ourselves. I just started reviving a stained skirt with Alabama Chanin's reverse applique technique. Yah for pretty clothes!

It's beautiful, I absolutely love the colour. I think it will be brilliant in the fall/winter as well layered over other shirts. Great job!

Hi Anna Maria: "Sardinia" is really pretty. I always enjoy browsing through your blog. A while back I read about a home decor holiday line you designed. When you have an opportunity I would to hear about. Love all things Christmasy and homey.

Wow! Stunning! No wonder you don't want to take it off. But I can see how it would be great for layering year round.

Lovely. The shape is similar to your tunic pattern, and is therefore flattering. I think the length is great.

Wow, it looks fabulous! Well done. Do we see some Anna Maria crochet patterns on the horizon? That would be really great!

Wow - so elegant yet casual. Is there anything you can't do?

ana said...

Wow, you were quick with that! But I agree, I think a size smaller would have been fine.

What a wonderful summer colour! You have made it up so beautifully!

Wow! I wish I could make something like that. First I need to find the patience! =)

Beautiful. I just told my husband this morning that I absolutely NEEDED to buy this pattern. He looked at me less than convinced...so I may have to wait a few months:( I also have trouble finding crocheted items that I would actually wear, but this would be something I would wear all the time! Thanks for posting this!

ps. I just picked up your sewing book today and I am so excited to make some of the projects!

Beautiful. I'm curious where to buy Rowan yarn (not online). I'd like to touch it first.

I am sure that the linen you used gives a nice drape and feel even if it is still a bit hot right now. Just a few more weeks (we can do it!) and you'll be able to wear it more. Carolina

The sweater looks fabulous. I have that pattern book and everything in it is so beautiful, but you've inspired me to start with the sardinia. THanks for the tips on sizing:)

Happy belated birthday! I wish I could have stopped by Textile to say it in person, but my husband was working and I was home with the kiddos. I hope it was a lovely time! I will just have to wait until the end of the month to meet you in person.

LUSH - im not usually one for crochet'd clothing, it somehow reminds me of my gran and the horrifc things she used to make in her younger years, it's very kitch. This however is the first tasteful crochet'd item i have seen in a while, it's beautiful. Loving the colour. x

Jessica Levitt said...

After your last post about the book for this I just had to buy it. I never find crochet patterns for clothes I like, but this is fantastic. I haven't bough the yarn yet, because I know I won't be able to stop myself and I don't have time to make it right now...

Yours is just lovely.

Corinna said...

I've just finished my first crotchet project and was thrilled to discover you were crotcheting at the same time. . . . Just like an old-fashioned sewing day but over the internet these days. It's a pity us crafters can't meet in person a bit more often.

I always error toward larger sizes when knitting, sometimes it really backfires. But you can still pull this off...

Lindsey said...

Rough estimate: how much would you say that lovely little number set you back?

Lindsey said...

Ok, I find myself loving everything you suggest, so I bought this book. But now I'm a bit intimidated by the european directions...like how it says a US single stitch is their European double stitch. And while I haven't read the whole pattern, I don't know what some of the abbreviations were. Is there anything you can do to let me know how you deciphered the lingo?

Oh, and all I want to do is crochet too, I'd rather someone else do the heavy.
