I waited until the day before college graduation to get my ears pierced... so I could have the benefit of several drinks before and after the event. I don't guess that drinks will be part of Eleni's preparations. :)

I dont remember any of my birthday cakes really, but what I do remember is the time my parents made a cake and it broke. They turned it out onto the table and let me and my sister have at it. Some mistakes are just meant to be.

It may well be too late to give advice on this, but the trick is a rectangular cake! Cut off the top two corners as the cake faces you (length going left to right) and a little bit of corner smoothing on the bottom two corners. Once you've done this, you basically frost the two cut corners back onto the cake for the ears. Maybe it's too late but I'm sure it will taste great regardless! My Lucy has her birthday today as well: 8 years old. She's letting me off easy with store bought cupcakes :)
Hello Kitty cake sounds like a great idea. Cute. I am sure you are doing the best you can. On my daughter's 5th birthday I decided to double the cake recipe, it was so dry and horrible. Kids were choking! AND I forgot the drinks! Its the company you share right?! :)
If all else fails, there's always "Monster Cake". My dad created that one year when one of his cakes crumbled and we all thought it was so cool. Maybe a backup plan for the future? Good luck!

My daughter wanted a Hello Kitty cake for her 6th birthday too! You'll probably have everything figured out by now, but here's a pic of what turned out to be a super easy way to make one. The face is cut out of white fondant, the eyes, nose, and hair flower are jelly bellys, and the whiskers are black gel icing. Really, really easy. Good luck!

LOL that is hilarious. I SO understand exactly that feeling! Even though I am obsessive about freshness, I now do my baking for events the night before and keep it refrigerated. It allows me some sanity to know I could make it again in an emergency. I hope you put up the finished shot too!
