One Slick Mama

new.oilcloth.1

YAY!

For those of you waiting on the new oilcloths to be available I think these images speak for themselves! But I should add that they really JUST showed up on my front door step, and are located right next to the flip flops, empty boxes, baby jogger, and leaning against that spot of the house where the kids wrote 'WELCOM' in sidewalk-chalk (which should not to be confused with on-the front-of-house-chalk, of course).

new.oilcloth.2

With my iddybit of sample yardage that we got a few weeks ago, we promptly whipped up two Multi-taskers and lined them each in the new oilcloths. I also made a two-sided changing pad (top pic), cotton fabric on one side, oilcloth on the other and quilt batting in the center. Simple. This could be an obvious detail, but when a change is particularly stinky- its quite convenient to use the slick, wipe-able side of the pad. Right. You knew that. Oh I also will be making a splat mat here soon since the little mr. is almost ready for high chair. (how is it time just goes by like that. weird.)

Some people call these laminates, but that makes me think of medical things, so I like saying oilcloth. Sue me.

We should have pre-cuts available in the shop by tomorrow afternoon.

Double-YAY!

more little folks coming soon!

EDITED TO ADD: We won't have the oilcloths in the shop until this afternoon (friday oct. 30th), and they'll be located in the Fabric Stacks section (if you're on the mailing list, you'll get an email). BUT my friends at purlsoho and fabricworm already have some ready to roll. Any other retailers that have it ready please post your link in the comments! Thanks everyone, and have fun!

DOUBLEDOG EDITED to ADD: I have been asked this so many times and have finally gotten my original hunch (and hopes) confirmed by Westminster: Our oilcloths/laminated cottons are PU coated, as in Polyurethane. (They do not contain phthalate, are not made of vinyl or pvc.) I'll try to remember to add this to my faq page...

Maybe it's my age, but I prefer the word oilcloth as well. Laminate is that durable stuff you use for countertops, you know, Formica.

Okay so I have lots of questions about the Multi-tasker pattern, mostly because of my inexperience with patterns, or possibly because I screwed it all up....? I'm on the 5th step of the 2nd part and I'm lost. What's a good way to figure this out, because it is really driving me crazy!

You outdid yourself AGAIN! Momentarily I have no particular need for oilcloth. So I must go and buy some. Coz this normally means an urgent need will appear soon. Out of nowhere ;)

Cute! I can think of tons of fun things to make with those oilcloths (I think oilcloth is a cool word to say, so I totally agree with you)!

oh, i love it so much. i'm dying to make something with those delicious patterns. especially if they're spit-able (meaning, my 6 month twin girls can spit frequently on them!)

I have a few photos of my AMH oilcloth-lined Multi-Tasker in your Sewing Patterns pool. Although my 6-year-old modeling the tote is out of diapers, I thought it would make a nice bag for holding our ever-needed travel drinks. Of course, we always pick up more along the way, usually ending up with one for each hand. It sure is nice to have those oilcloth pockets when I have to bring everything back into the house. I too thought it would make a nice diaper bag for much the same reason - except that I'm not parting with the bag now - nor the pattern. I have two more totes in mind to make as Christmas gifts (already made two - gifted one to my mom for her birthday). It's a genius pattern. If *I* can make it, anyone can. Your oilcloth sold out pretty quickly the first time, so I'll be sure to snag lots whenever I can find your new line on-line. Stalking all the usual haunts now... and waiting... Will you announce when the new line is actually available? I can't find it anywhere yet.

Cindy said...

Oh, I love it all. Definitely inspiring. I probably should get my hands on some little folks.

I think oil cloths are really neat and would have many great uses, except they are coated with PVC(the ones I've checked on in the past anyway). I'm assuming yours do as well???

Anna Maria said...

Hi Laura- I am actually pretty certain the coating on my laminated cottons (or oilcloth, as I like to say!) is PU (polyurethane) and not PVC- but am getting that confirmed right now. I'll add another edit to the post once I find out- thanks! xo,Anna

That would be great! I'll check back later to see what you find out.

I ordered my oilcloth from Fabricworm nearly as soon as she listed it. I was so afraid I would already be too late. I think I got mine just in time. I made an apron for my 3-year-old granddaughter when she does art pbojects and to everyone who hasn't used it yet--it sews like butter. LOVE.IT. My new order should arrive on Monday--I hope.

Love seeing what you have been doing.

Have you heard of the new textile art TV series called Talking Threads? Google it - you will love their work.

Would love to get my hands on those oilclothes.
I've been surfing Etsy trying to find if anyone is selling the multitasker tote but find none. If anyone is selling them and probably is using part of the oilcloth *wishful*, I'd love to buy it.

I get so inspired by your posts especially when you include life as a mama. My son is just a couple months older than Roman. Thanks for cross-referencing the Multi-Tasker bag, I look forward to making one!

Blessings!
