September? Sept. Tem. Ber!?
I was perfectly happy in book deadline denial until I went into the kitchen to pour a tall cold glass of distraction. And right there, printed at just the right angle for my eyes, and in the snootiest rub-it-in-my-face font, my milk screamed September. Seriously? September is just one drink-by date away!?
Oh geez. I gotsta do what I gotsta do, and I may be a bit quiet here for another week or two to do it. Maybe a photo here or there. I almost always think of a zillion things to blog when I decide I need to not blog for a bit. I'll try to keep a list & get to them after my deadline....ooohpp-no, no I won't, I don't have time to keep a list. You see, there I go.
Be back soon.
(It should be noted that, sell-by dates aside, the milk is likely a much better choice of book-writing fuel for a nursing mother than all the late night hooch snacks that got me through the first book. I am learning.)
xo, anna
i hear ya! where has this year gone. at least you have an excuse... a new baby, book & family. By the way I can't wait to get your new book!!!
ReplyDeleteI am SO in the same boat! Let's both hunker down and get some things checked off the list that never stops growing and then suddenly it's Christmas and wow, where has the time gone??
ReplyDeleteAm feeling it, for reals.
Looking forward to your new book--sounds beautiful and thoughtful and straight from your heart.
your posts never fail to make me smile. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for your new book though! I am due with my first baby in Sept. (so that date smacked me as well) and can't wait to make all the sweet things you conjure up!
I can't believe how fast this year has gone either. It seems like yesterday I was very large waiting for our first son to be born now he's gonna be 6 months old!
ReplyDeleteI missed the news about a new book but how exciting! My kids birthdays always jump up and slap me. How can my kid be____ already? Crazy!
ReplyDeleteLove this post—I am so there!...how CAN it POSSIBLY almost be September already?! Good luck with the writing...can't wait to see the end product!
ReplyDeleteHaha I also always use sell or use by dates to 'measure' how long until a certain event...(except when it says 2012 or something). New book? So soon? Wow, I've only managed to make one project from your other book, give me some more time! But usually it takes quite a while for a book to be published doesn't it, so maybe I can manage to make some more things!
ReplyDeleteI hear you though not for deadline reasons do I dread that drink by date. I am just not ready for summer to be over in the biggest way this year. Remember those horrible Country Time Lemonade commercials they used to run? They would start in July and they would talk about how you better get out there and enjoy summer because it is pretty much over. I always hated those. Plus I got a magazine the other day - the October 2009 issue. Can't people just let us be in the present? Augghhhh!
ReplyDeleteI just had the same, but opposite reaction to the September realization! I told my honey yesterday, that although I'm sad that summer is almost over... FALL is almost here! I L.O.V.E. everything about fall. The smells, the food, the leaves falling, the crispness of the air, the vast amount of quilting, and the snuggling by the fire. can't wait! XO, Courtney
ReplyDeletehee hee
ReplyDeletei was just telling someone
(due in 20 days)
that i loved it when i could buy milk, with my baby's due date on it.
deadline milk exp. date = no bueno.
baby's due date or birthday = a good thing.
first day of school? = good thing.
made some re-uasable sandwich/snack bags from lovely AMH oilcloth today, their lunch was never so stylish.
photos when i dig out from summer chaos.
Nothing like a jug to get you going!
ReplyDeleteAnd I laughed so hard at what got you through the last book:)
You know what they say MIlk Does A Body Good! Best wishes as you finish your book!!!
ReplyDeleteAll the best with your writing. I am so looking forward to reading it...yes already!
ReplyDeleteoops that was me.
ReplyDeletehello anna maria! my husband and i found your amazing drawing room fabric at a local independent fabric shop just yesterday. i plan on making some curtains and covering an old rocker with your beautiful fabrics! we live in minnesota now but were married 7 years ago at wightman chapel in nashville and not a day goes by that i don't miss our dear n-ville friends! glad to know you are there...i'll definitely share your amazing designs with friends!
ReplyDeletewarmly,
kelly richter
Grapes and even M&Ms are also an appropriate late night snack for someone in your position. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud when I saw this post. It was a milk carton that sent me into a complete panic when I was pregnant with my first child. I ran into the living room to my husband screaming, "OH MY GOD! The baby will be here before this milk goes bad!" Talk about a shocker. I guess those milk dates can really put things in perspective :)
ReplyDelete"This milk jug just completely freaked me out and slapped me in the face really hard. Ouch."
ReplyDeleteThe best title for a blog post ever, in the history of blogging. Seriously.
Don't worry Anna Maria. You are an extraordinary woman. You can do it!
xoxo
too funny! where does the time go? yours was one of the first blogs i stumbled upon last fall and i love it! and somehow i feel "close" to you as i live in franklin (the best little town there is!) your fabric designs are incredible and inspiring. here's hoping september brings some cooler weather. all the best.
ReplyDeleteLove your post! SO true and hilarious!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I hear ya! For me, it's the egg's! Yah, the egg cartons.....I see the upcoming dates all lined up in my fridge and I realize that time is simply flying by!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking eggs, I'm all outta them....better go grab some more dates. LOL~
PS....gorgeous fabric under the milk carton!

ReplyDeleteyep- fall is just around the corner.... yeah for fall decorating! (I still need t acquire stuff for the other seasons...)
We have a four month dry erase calendar at work. I hate watching the boss change the months...we are now into November up on the board, which means one more month to this year, in dry erase time. It's going by so quickly!
ReplyDeletethats birthday. :) btw...i love reading your blog. im sucha fan! :)
ReplyDeleteFinding the date and being behind is still better than taking a big swig of spoiled milk...LOL
ReplyDeleteAnna Maria, I am sure you will make it and I can't wait to see the result. Goodluck with the hard work!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the book deadline Anna! I'm 100% sure it's going to be great!

ReplyDeleteLooking soooo forward to the book! XXxx.
Tell me about it! My due date (Sept. 12) is rapidly approaching! Time sure flies.
ReplyDeleteTime has gone by like nobody's business. Here one moment, flying out the door, past my head, the next. (Oh, what was that? I just heard August whoosh by...)
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you! You can do it!
oh goodness. i'm the exact same way with wanting to blog when i know i shouldnt! good luck with the book (:
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way about September! I cannot believe it's so close! I always feel that when September comes that I should start preparing for hibernation. Time to go to as many garage sales as you can to get as much random stuff you can turn into craft ideas or Christmas gifts as possible!!!
ReplyDeletedon't you work better under pressure :)
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel!! I am a teacher and the school term starts again in September here in the UK. Do not work too hard though, you need your sleep too.
ReplyDelete:) I am SO looking forward to fall and Halloween! What is Roman going to be?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your deadlines...can't wait to hear more about the book!
Please, pretty please make your deadline! I can't wait for the new book!

In Australia, the word "Ugg" means "Boot". ugg clearance Ever since the '60's, Ugg boots have been in use by Australian surfers for warmth after getting out of cold water. When Ugg Boots migrated to California (along with the surfers), nice and cheap ugg boots the surfing community there also embraced the thermostatic boots (they keep you warm when it's cold, nice and cheap ugg boots while whisking away any moisture when it's hot). ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful quilt and it goes without saying...your son is such a precious little bundle. looking at the back of his sweet little head while he's sleeping reminds me of my daughter's days in her crib..truly a "moment" in time.
ReplyDeletei watched your video for the new book...it's awesome!
I have enjoyed "seams to me" so much(blogged about it over at my blog).
