A Change

To avoid eye-rolling and a verbal lashing I had to secretly shoot this through a window (and a few trees). To be fair it was a virtual 100 degrees yesterday and that tire jack wasn't the only cranky thing out there. They may still retroactively kill me for this. Its just that I think they'll also thank me one day. Not entirely the point, really, but I'm thanking me for taking these photos.

I have my favorite capture of Summer 2009 (although this one is a tie for first).

What's yours? Photographed or remembered.....

xoxo,Anna

  1. Mine is a car thing as well. We bought a new car and gave our old one to my mother. Of course we had to clean and wash the old one before we handed it over.... Fair enough. BUT we hadn't cleaned the car for ages. It took us about 3 hours to get it done. It was a great laugh, a sunny day, good music...
And even more fun to see how glad my mum was :-)

  2. I have a lot of favorite captures mainly because we welcomed a new baby into our family this summer. But I think my favorite photos are of my two oldest playing in the back yard. They look so cute and have such a wonderful time together.

  3. That is why we use AAA, there is no way that I would change a tire in that heat!

My favorite moment this summer was when my dog, Murphy Grace, and I faced down a crazy mean gopher. The little guy was on his hind legs hissing at us and while scary at the time, it is funny now.

  4. Having grass (finally), The Monster being pottytrained (finally), and the ride on a rented pedicab in Waterton National Park all rank high. But truly, the one I'll remember the most is the evening I spilled tea on my boob.

We were driving home from a family visit and stopped for caffeine. As I went to sip my tea we hit a bump and a huge slurp of tea flew out the cup and landed on my chest. Through my shirt and bra I totally scalded my boob. I'm cringing and swearing when my three year asks if I'm okay. Gasping, I assure her that I am, but continue swearing. She pipes up from the backseat, "Come on, Mama, don't be such a wussie."

  5. This is my favorite so far, though it's not necessarily "summery". The video star is my 2½-yr.-old granddaughter, a future seamstress, for sure. :-)

I don't remember if I've commented before, but I've been following your blog for a while. Your fabrics are lovely, but I especially love the family stuff. You have a wonderful family, and your little Roman is adorable!

  6. they will both love it later--when she is far away. . .living her grown up life. and that little guy in the water is precious. seeing your range of kiddos reminds me so much of my husband's family. he is #13 our of 14 and is the baby boy. . . he has lots of mamas:).

  7. My favorite capture of the summer is of my three girls on a ride at the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. The joy on their faces makes my heart swell!

  8. My favorite of your captures is the third one down! Watching that from a window (even though its 100 degrees out there) is priceless! So cute to see them both hard at work... as a team... frustrated or not! (:

My favorite of my own captures is one of my baby granddaughter's first visit to our beach... we roasted marshmellows and made smores... you should have seen her face when she tasted the first one!!! It was pure delight!

  9. I enjoyed your story and it brought a smile to my face. I remember our recent road trip and our flat tire in the middle of nowhere. I did get pictures and blogged about it too. It seemed like every candid shot I tried to take I would get glares from my adult children (19 & 23). They were not too happy with me but I'm happy that I got so many great pictures even if they had grumpy subjects in some of them.

  10. My favorite capture is one I took of my brother and his girlfriend with my girls on the beach in Santa Cruz. He has had a tumultuous few years. He is such a great guy he deserves to be happy and it seems he is finally there. That's how it should be!
Good for you for sneaking the pics. They will thank you later....much later! xo

  11. I distinctly remember my Dad teaching me how to change a tire and watched patiently as I figured it out (admist grumbling, protests, etc.)

My favorite summer memory happened on Saturday. After several stressful months of selling our house, packing, moving and unpacking, I sat back and watched my girls play happily at their new favorite park. I know it sounds like such a simple and ordinary thing, but their unbridled grins and squeals of laughter reminded me that children are in fact resilient creatures, and that they will get through this transition and make new friends and memories in our new environment.

  12. You go, girl. I have to say my favorite of the summer is not yet captured, but I ADORE hearing my two year old belt out some excellent music from the back seat-- M. Ward, Bobby McFerrin and vintage Dead are among his favorites. I'll never forget this summer of unseasonable coolness, windows down, radio up, and my heart very, very full.

  13. This reminds me of our honeymoon in Maui. We drove to the top of the volcano (I would tell you the name but I'm pretty sure I can't spell it off the top of my head). A couple from Germany had a flat tire on their rental car, and neither they nor the lone park ranger at the top had a clue how to change it. So my husband changed their tire, and I took pictures. It was still kind of romantic, watching him change a tire for an older couple at the top of a mountain!

  14. Is that juliana? poor kid, but actually smart kid because she can change her own flat tires!.....my favorite photos are those that I recently took of my boys at Marina Beach!

  15. My favorite involves family and food, chilly weather in summer, and s'mores around a campfire. The best, and a nice memory on a hot day like today.

  16. Oh my father made us learn to change our own tires as well. As an adult, my sister commented on how much easier it is to do when you aren't crying!

  17. my favourite capture of the summer is the anticipation of the summer to come. We on the other side of the world are still waking up to frosty mornings - but my heart lightens at the end of each day when i realise the sun has been up for little bit longer. It is a while away yet but already i am planning menu's in my head for all the bbq's to come.

  18. This is mine. My family got a new puppy at the beginning of the summer and he is already about 4 times that big!

  19. Are they going to tackle an oil change tomorrow? I am sure they will look back on the day with fond memories -- in a few years when it is cooler!!
Great pictures and memories you are creating!

  20. Changing a tire is always a stressful event but how sweet are they working together??? I'd have to say that my favorite capture was just taken today of two sisters hugging. It's just pure love between the two of them, my little ones!

(and those feet in the previous posts? they've been tugging at my uterus ever since... my husband is not pleased!!)

  22. Must be the summer of flat tires. I haven't had one in three years until last week!

  23. More power to them. . .and you're right one day your daughter will say "Dad, remember when we changed that tire out in the heat. . ." He'll say "Yep, and you did a great job!" And you'll bring out the photograph. It will be treasured.

  24. Dear Anna Maria,
I've been discovering your blog and website (from Chez Plum) in these days.. so interesting!
If you don't mind I've tagged you in my website:

It's a joke: you should write 10 true things about you that are known or not. Then write a list of 10 people and their blogs and let them know that they have been tagged.

  25. Sometimes that's what you have to do to get some neat pictures.
My favourite summer remembered is of a few years ago, our girls paddling on the lake just as the sun was going down wishing the day wasn't ending but looking forward to the next memorable day.

  26. My favorite capture is in my mind (I still need to remember to bring my camera to the pool)... my 4 year old learned to swim this summer and she ended up being fearless of the water. She runs and does what looks like will be the most beautiful dive - arms out at her side - and lands smack on her belly in the water everytime - and pops up with the biggest grin on her face.

My not so favorite but most memorable capture on film happened this weekend when a BAT WAS IN MY HOUSE. Pics on my blog if you want to see it. It's actually kinda cute until it popped it's wings out and showed it's teeth.

  27. Thank you Anna for sharing these photographs. They bring back such fond memories of my Dad teaching me how to change the tire and check the oil in the car. A girl needed to be prepared for any eventuality. I had six brothers standing and teasing me the whole time until my Dad shooed them away. Ahhh those were the good old days! I hope they had a tall glass of lemonade waiting for them inside!

  41. In Australia, the word "Ugg" means "Boot". ugg clearance Ever since the '60's, Ugg boots have been in use by Australian surfers for warmth after getting out of cold water. When Ugg Boots migrated to California (along with the surfers), nice and cheap ugg boots the surfing community there also embraced the thermostatic boots (they keep you warm when it's cold, nice and cheap ugg boots while whisking away any moisture when it's hot).
