Lots of spring sewing going on around here. Just finished up 5 linen covered notepads, 2 aprons, and 2 baby quilts in the past couple of weeks. Gotta love spring! It is so motivating :)Next I'll be working my way through the list I have for State Fair entries this summer.http://hiphome.blogspot.com
Yesterday I made a "Lady In Pink" dress (from the Backyardigans) for my daughters birthday. I am also making denim tailored slipcovers for two chairs in my living room. It is nice to be sewing again!
Working on getting ready for a craft fair in May...my first one, actually. So, I'm busy sewing up bibs, burp cloths, tote bags, baby quilts, etc. Got lots to do. I did find time to make my darling four year old her Easter dress, though. Now, if I could just find the time to finish mine...
Lovely fun photos! I've got a lot of irons in the fire:Stroller quilt (half done,) baby blankets, burp cloth set, a bag for a friend and a bag for my sister... and a baby shower gift for my sister to give... oh and two OTHER quilts in progress. Oh boy!
Finishing up a quilt with fabric from the Garden Party line (my fav)...and about to start cutting fabric for a quilt for my son. Love the "strip" design you used on this quilt..may have to copy!!!
I would love to learn, but my very old sewing machine drives me nuts. Last time, I used my mom's Viking and nearly took a finger off! Okay, I sewed through it. Ouch. I really need to learn, but I don't have anywhere to put my machine. Small house.
not sewing - but love the inspiration - saving for my first sewing machine, even a used one, whichever I find first. I'm in a random little corner, but think it should happen sometime this year! =)
oh such beautiful colors...i would love to have a huge board like that to lay my pieces out
Currently an apron and three softie elephants plus I need to hand sew the binding on a fishsed baby blanket. All gifts then on to a skirt and apron for me.
I'm actually crocheting right now...but this afternoon, I believe I will be starting a Multi-Tasker Tote!!!I received my pattern in the mail today. YAY!I just have to tell you and all your followers that ordering from your store is an absolute delight. I cannot believe how fast my pattern got here. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Lovely pictures!! I´m sewing a sun hat :-)
everyone is so ambitious, I feel like a slacker - I'm hand quilting a disaster of a first try of a Kaffe Fasset design - hot diamonds
Glad to see I'm not the only one covered in thread! I'm sewing a baby quilt, a bubble dress and a tooth fairy doll!
To be completed by Friday (maybe): Summer dresses for my girl--one in green and one in white. A couple of tops for me along with a linen wrap around skirt. And lastly two embroidered pocket babies (from goodygoody.typepad.com) for a certain Easter basket that needed just one more thing! I suppose I should get some fabric cut!As always great photos!
my first quilt. its from a kit, but i'm still so proud!!
Ahhhhhhh, yes. Spring sewing! Almost as good as FALL Sewing! Not to be outdone by WINTER Sewing!! Each brings with it a renewed oh-my-gosh-I-have-to-start-a-bazzilion-projects-at-once vibe to my sewing room. How I love that vibe. Thread all over the place, piles of fabric everywhere.Sooooo, right now it's 3 quilt tops, one table topper and a couple of pillows. Give me time - I just got started over the weekend. And, Anna? Are those BARE feet in the last photo? LOL. I totally get that - I wore slippers for about 20 minutes after I read your post(s) about the ouchies - even after remembering a rather painful trip to the ER myself with half a sewing needle stuck in the bottom of my foot - before I gave up and kicked them off.I just need to feel the floor(grass, driveway, tile, etc.) under my bare feet!
That first image of the strips up on the quilt wall caused an involuntary gasp, sharp intake of breath and slow release. That is a beautiful sight.
Making placemats, napkins and coasters for my friends wedding, then a taxi tote from the great book =) and then an apron from the same book! Hopefully all before Easter!
I'm finishing up Easter dresses for my two girls. They are so cute! I'm in an apparel sewing phase, at the moment.
I'm trying(unsuccessfully so far) to make some rabbits and birds for Easter presents...Can I just say my iron never looked so clean! How do you clean it?Any tips?
Working on my first sewingproject ever (a pillow inspired by your blog :D) I already got new fabrics for my first quilt/blanket!
i am making 2 easter dresses and some dolls with vintage plastic faces!
I'm finally getting to sew my first real bed-sized quilt all on my own with no help from my always-quilting mother! To make it even less intimidating, I'm doing a king size quilt with Drawing Room fabric. Wish me luck!
My sewing machine has been dormant for a while and i am trying to get motivated to kick it into high gear. Not sure what my problem is. I love making things!
I'm "sewing" a beautiful, busy expectant woman. Always so much to "sew" in your blog!
Refashioning, refashioning, refashioning!
oh, so beautiful. i always love the color in your posts and work. my sewing machine needs a check-up and i have no car with which to drive it to the sewing machine doctor :(that's the only explanation i can offer. i wish it were not so.
Last minute "dress", slipcover or whatever it's called for the soon to arrive baby's co-sleeper bassinet. Those things are just too ugly to look at. It's turning out pretty nice! Love the belly shot, I know it sounds crazy, but I will miss the huge basketball in front of me when it's gone.
I am not sewing anything at the moment. I know, terrible. My explanation is I am 16 weeks pregnant and have yet to regain any of my pre-pregnancy energy. Boo! I have done lots of embroidery though. And planning for all the baby projects to come!
Ok. Guilty. Not sewing, but does preparing to sew count? Two months from here ( http://www.centerstone.com/ ) - middle houseMy love and I spent three hours this weekend taking picture and walking through our framed structure. There is nothing like a blank canvas and a paint palette of promise to inspire the soul.
Felt necklaces, my daughter's toys..all handmade! And I have some children dresses in project..My house is full of cut threads (and cat hairs) too!!
Bibs, bibs and more bibs. Lots of babies due this summer. Yay!
Ha! I have the same iron!I've very new to sewing, and it's easy for me to become intimidated by it. So, at the moment my sewing desk is piled high with 'everything else'. But, clearing it off is my task for the afternoon-- cause there's just too much I want to sew... and the only way I'm ever going to learn to sew is by just going it, right?
I'm sewing a lap quilt for my mother-in-law, with designs on a king sized version for our bed. I like to think of the little one as "practice." A big, floppy hat for poolside and gardening this summer. A laptop cover in some of your Good Folks goodness for my new MacBook....will that be another quilt you're making? Beautiful, as always!
I love that last pic. Your belly is so cute.I'm currently turning a bunch of sentimental t-shirt scraps into nice pillows for a friend's mother. (Yes, I used Garden Party for all of the pillows!)
Thats it! You've convinced me to start a quilt! I've been so busy working on items for my etsy shop that I would love to sit down and start a quilt project for myself! And the one you've started here seems like a great way to use up all of my fabric scraps. And simple shapes, my favorite!www.lovenatalie.squarespace.com
Im am finishing up my sons ! spy Quilt and making a dress for my daughter out of a mens dress shirt. I love the picture of your lap while sewing. THis is what I look like eveyday, My husband complains because the thread gets in the laundry and a sticks to his work clothes.
LOL I'm sewing curtains and closet-curtains for the baby nursery! XD And I'm planning on a quilt, but I'm unsure of the design yet. I want something funky but muted and matching with the colours in the room... ah, it'll come to me eventually! <3
I am piecing the top of a quilt right now, my second one, it is for my Mom. My view looking down at my lap is starting to look a lot like yours LOL
I'm sewing my first quilt, as well. Unfortunately, I wasn't as smart as nicole to start with a kit, and I am quite certain that I'm in over my head.
I'm not sewing because I'm reading YOU.
I just finished sewing an art quilt last week and now I'm working on a cloth mermaid doll. It needs to be finished by next Tuesday evening! I can't wait to get the basic sewing part done so that I can get to the beaded embellishment. That part will make it come alive.Your sewing room shots are so lively .. love all that happy color! :-)
I just finished sewing a Study Hall Skirt! And I love it so much! Your instructions were great and I even managed to put in the invisible zipper successfully. I already have big plans for another one (I ordered some of your fabrics from a lovely Etsy shop last night) and lots of plans for more of your patterns too. Thanks so much for the wonderful inspiration!
I'm sewing everything i can find the time to sew! Last night I made a big girl's pillow case night dress (for me, aged 30 and a quarter) and it turned out fantastic, so thank you for your fabulous tutorial :) Yes, it was a very big pillowcase ;)
What a wonderful quilt!I am sewing a skirt for myself and am planning to work on a dress. I found great colourful fabrics that fit perfectly for a dress.Yay - exciting!Best from Germany,Juli
Love what you're sewing! I have a couple excuses for not sewing over the past couple weeks - ugh! I just spent two weeks in China visiting my sister. And, I'm enrolled in a graphic design program which gives me a lot of homework. It's fun being in art classes, but I really miss sewing, darn it!
I'm refashioning slip dresses for my three girls for Easter. And getting ready for the 8 spring shows I'm involved in that means lots of bags, pillowcase dresses, onesies, and other things, just alot of sewing!I have bought some of your good folks (which I am smitten with by the way) for a quilt for my bed. I have been trying to figure out how I want it to look, when I saw the first picture i knew immediately I wanted it similar to that, I love the simpleness of it, thanks for the inspiration!
AHH! I love that last pic, with your baby bump just barely in the picture!I finished an afikomen (matso) cloth cover just in time for passover last night. My legs were covered in thread by the end--I'm glad that happens to others, too :)
Love the quilt. Is that a particular pattern? Where is it available. I love it!!
oh my goodness, I wish I was sewing! I've been working in my booth at a trade fair since last week and am at the point where I'm getting a little shaky from not making anything! It's over now though, so lots to catch up on this week. Can't wait. The bump's looking fabulous! xxMandatreefall
Cleaned and reorganized the studio this past weekend then promptly made a new creative mess on the work table. I am preparing for a very special give away - something ruffly, something funky, something practical pretty to give away next week. I love your strippy quilt - is that what it will be? I will be checking back to see where this project goes. Thank you for a fun post. ~KellyunDeniably Domestic
I'm sewing baby things, for baby number two, who will be here in November! Made some wipes and some nursing pads today! On to bigger and better-er things, like diapers! :)Pictures on my blog-- randijc.blogspot.com
My sweater or shirt always looks like that too! I'm sewing doll quilts at the moment. Small & satisfying!
I'm working my way through Heather Ross' new Weekend Sewing book. Just finished the Everything Tote and the Pajamas for Everyone. Lots of fun! It looks like you're having fun too. Love the photo with the threads on your lap :) Can't wait to see the finished product. Happy Quilting!!
I'm currently working on finishing up a stuffed, felt owl (dubbed Hemingway) for Alex. Funnily enough, I free-handed the pattern for him (as a larger version) based off of the Hoot owl ornament that you posted. When he's all finished up I'm planning on starting a quilt that will be a wedding present for one of my best friend's, Jenna.-KayeP.S. Your bump looks so cute covered in those bits of thread!
I'm desperately trying to finish up a quilt for my husband's birthday in a week. I also need to bind a quilt I started for myself and I started cutting the fabric for a quilt for my sister's birthday.
Hmm, lots on the go here.Handstitching the binding on the baby quilt for our most recent nephew.Developing a class sample for hopefully (!) my first teaching adventure.Finishing a doll quilt for a special almost niece.Still trying to get through all the triangles on my project Improv. And the binding for a quilt is sitting on the back of the dining room chair, waiting to be attached.PS The belly (and the legs) look great!
Finally... I did try some sewing today. Now I have four fabric eggs for Easter, but truthfully, they look too wonky for publication. Any suggestions? How to get small softies and Easter eggs to look very pretty? I suppose it has something to do with meticulously careful seams. Sigh.
Now I really, really want to sew!! Thanks for the inspiration, I need to get my sewing machine fixed a.s.a.p :) Love the whiteboard, haven't seen one of those before.
It's all twirly skirts for the two year old over here...
I'm busy sewing lots of springtime clothing :-D
Love the belly shot at the end. Talk about creative!! You've got creation happening inside and out.Andi :-)
I'm designing my own bags right now using charm packs. I've done two with Flutterby and currently I'm working on a second using the Wonderland fabrics by MoMo. I'm specifically interested in your Shark iron. I recently did a post about iron problemshttp://loftcreations.blogspot.com/2009/04/sensitive-subject.html50+ people are having the same problem according to the comments. Can you tell me about your iron? Thank you.
Desperately trying to finish the last two patterns of Lori Holt's "Comforts of Home". So much hand sewing! What am I doing on the computer???
I just finished a set of Letter Sacks and now I'm on to some things for Sweetpea's Easter basket. Your fabrics are beautiful, as always.
Love your photos! Your fabrics are so gorgeous. The shot of your baby bump made me smile thinking that your little one probably finds the sound of a sewing machine very familiar and rather soothing! ;o)As for me? I have grand plans to get back to work on my latest quilt since I finally bought some batting last evening.
pillows.lots and lot of pillows.i was covered in lint and thread yesterday too. :)
Just finished up a cot quilt. Currently sewing up blocks for a twin bed quilt for my 4 year old and cutting out for a queen quilt for friends. Love being covered in lint and threads!! The more I see of Good Folks the more I need to get my hands on some! Love the pic of your bump - too sweet!
I just finished up a wonderful summer skirt. However, my sewing endeavors have been put on hold by my husband for awhile now. Claims we need to paint the house and finish up other fixer-upper projects before I sew any more. I'm saddened, but he has a point. :)
Oh, how I want to be sewing. My new hobby seems to be acquiring the materials but never quite getting it done. I blame the toddler who is currently having unexplained, uncontrollable temper tantrums which is perhaps the very definition of toddlerhood. Someday, she said wistfully.
I am working on an 8 bag bridal order. I am also getting ready to quilt my first quilt. The top is finished, I have tacked the batting and underside together. Now I just need some spare time to quilt.I got a charm pack of Good Folks today and plan to make one of my rag totes with it tonight.Love the peeking belly shot~which reminded me to tell you I just made a cup of Mint tea with honey.
I'm sewing a little girls twirl skirt :) For my Etsy...I love it!!
Ugh! Alterations. I hate alterations. But it's nice extra cash. Once I finish those I'll be whipping up curtains for our naked but for the sheers windows!
Oh, Anna Maria, I read your post this morning, and didn't want to reply because I'm not sewing anything! I have been crafting a bit lately, and doing all sorts of creative things, but I haven't sewn in weeks! Admitting this means I'll have to dust of my featherweight and make a headband or a zipper purse or something. You can also see the mural I just finished on my blog! I'm also inspired to clean up an old dresser we have and do some sweet lining in the drawers, as you have. Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh, and I can't believe how skinny your little legs look in that preggers pic! Jealous.
ha! i absolutely love the pic of your legs all strewn with cotton :) i'm a painter, and it's the sewer's equivalent of paint-flecked fingers :)
Wow what creative people read this blog! I just finished up an Easter hat for my baby... and a tag blanket wit tag toys to go with it... and the baby's baby quilt was finished a short time ago (with a grown-up size one to follow). I'm itching to make another quilt, but I have decided that before that happens I need to break down and buy the proper cutting tools!
What lovely pictures, I especially love your beautiful thread covered belly, so cute! What am I sewing, sigh.... my list is longer than my arm. And all to be done before the May Long Weekend. That is when the garden goes in and all sewing stops until Oct. Ok, maybe not ALL sewing. I can see myself hand sewing sock monkey appendages in a nice sunny yard with the kids running about. My favorite project right now is a picnic quilt. I'm using old jeans and some bright and cheery decorator weight to fill in the gaps. Fun fun!
Hmmm...what am I not sewing :-)I actually need to work on finishing projects but I just keep finding so many fun projects to start. I have a few quilts in the works, some bags, curtains....I love all the threads - I am constantly picking thread off me!
I'm sewing a hang-up needle organizer for my circular knitting needles.
Oh your tummy is so cute, full of karate choppin' baby person. I'm making a crapload of baby quilts for my Nugge (prairie points abound!), gotta start some bedding and such but the quilts are more fun, started an Amy Butler Chelsea tote, and I have an order for some custom bridesmaid gift underpants I need to get up on! I'm usually covered in threads too : )
I'm working on a scarf and muff to celebrate both my birthday and the warmer weather that is finally arriving (way up in northern Canada - so jealous of everyone whose already got plants).
Well, I wasn't sewing as I had three job applications and long hours in the office to deal with. But the moment I walk in the door tonight I'll be making Zing the Cat from the new Meet Me At Mike's craft book! Can't wait to get my hands on fabric and thread again.
absolutely i'm sewing...17 quilts in process...uhhh...maybe i should finish something.
I love this post...it communicates so much (as do all of your posts). Love your insight into the creative life. I'm sewing today...some prizes for a giveaway...and I'm grateful to be able to sew about everyday!
Working on a simple top made out of Heather Ross's new line- blue background with white clouds and orange quid. Love it. Also started my first quilt. I have no idea what i'm doing and am going totally patternless. Making it out of Anna Maria's Good Folks line. It's been fun becuase my hubby is great with color (and math) so he drew me up a grid. I hope that when we're old we can tell the great grandkids how we stayed up too late trying to figure out how to make a quilt. Also, need to agree with the poster who said that ordering from Anna's store is awesome. The stuff gets here super fast! I ordered more fabric last night and it already shipped! The first time I ordered it took just four days and I live in Hawaii.Starr
Making a purse with your sweet fabrics and pattern! YAY! Making me happy!Laurie~PS....do we get a cute profile/belly photo of you and bubs?! Purty please!
Your last picture is me, minus the beautiful pregnant tummy, with threads all over my clothing. I have picked up my kids looking like this, and not realizing it!!
The only sewing I've accomplished lately is in my head! I'm dealing with some health issues and haven't had the mental or physical energy to sew, sadly. But I've been poring over books from the library and drooling over books like yours at the bookstore, dreaming of what I'll make when I'm feeling better. I love your blog! It's one of many that are inspiring to me while my own sewing machine and projects are on hiatus. thanks for sharing with us.
I love your blog (and of course, you!) You are so inspiring! The piece you are working on in this post is absolutely delightful. I am currently sewing fabric Easter eggs, blocks, softies, and other items for my 1 year old son's Easter basket. Have a great week!
Bags, skirts, dresses! Even if it's still chilly outside here in North Idaho at least the colors are warm in the fabrics in my creations...maybe they will help to herald in the true Spring in nature :).
oh my gosh! that's exactly the kind of quilt i want to do for my son's "big boy" room! right now i'm finishing a similar throw quilt i got as a kit for practice (slowly but surely!).thanks for the visual! for some reason i have a severe issue with picking a project, finding a pattern & sticking to it - i seem to just envision something in my mind & then try to create it - craziness!happy monday!kelly (aka girl who thinks being emotional when preggy could be cathartic!)
I made your little half apron. And now I'm sewing baby shower invitations. I'm a beginner.
I'm sewing a purse for my cousin. It's made in fabulous spring colours with butterflies! After that I will be making a journal cover for my sister's guest book for her wedding in May. I'm excited!
just finished sewing an apron for my daughter (I used a valentine table cover from walmart). currently my sewing machine is lonely for I will be packing her along with everything else while we move to the other side of this island. Once we get settled I will finish my sons quilt along with other unfinished sewing projects. Happy spring!!
I'm sewing up some prototypes of felt and embroidered pendants for my soon to be etsy shop!!! :)
Doll blankets for nieces!
Not sewing anything as of late. Everything is packed up because we're moving to my Grandparents' farm. There are plans for sewing though in the near post-unpacked future. Love the belly bump!
Just finished my daughter's Easter dress! Next in line, tablecloths for my sister's baby shower. :)
I'm sewing napkins for Easter, and hoping I can get them done before Saturday. In the meantime, my t-shirt quilt is in progress, and baby burp cloths and blankets are waiting to be created.Your quilt is exquisite, but my fav picture has to be your bump. Thank you always for the inspiration.
I love the threads over everything at the end...and to be honest, I didn't even notice that the baby was popping into the picture! What am I sewing? well, right now I am reading blogs, but I am going up to the studio soon to finish one Christmas quilt for a magazine and start another Christmas quilt for our mutual friends Jeff P and all the rest at Free Spirit.
Working on a quilt pattern involving fish, and shopping for the perfect fabric. Then, on to the actual sewing!
My first quilt--a simple but cheery, whimsical pinwheel quilt for my daughter's approaching birthday (year: two; bed: twin... moving on up!). And, I just finished a little wooly blue bunny with pink satin ears. Feels good to create, doesn't it?
I wish my iron looked that clean. I dropped it on the carpet a few weeks back, and it's just never recovered.
anna, could you please tell me this: there is a beautiful colorful dress that models your new good folks collection. i've seen the dress on your site and also in magazine ads but i cant find the pattern for it anywhere. can you tell me where i can find it?
That thready picture reminds me of something from a book from years ago. Two kids out on the soccer field...one kid reaches over to the other's shoulder to pull off a loose thread and asks, "Your mom quilt?" I always thought that was funny. The thread is powerful...more than soccer! :)Oh...I'm sewing NOTHING right now! I have analysis paralysis and I cannot decide what project needs more work right now. Bleh. Nothing creative on my list, all just repairs. Wah.
Lovin' your sewing setup! My hands are itching for a few good sewing projects, Easter dresses if I can get my rear in gear, and some seriously cute illustrated totes for tidiness.
I feel a little on the lazy side after seeing those wonderful work happening photos! There have been more than a few little woolen dolls evolving around here. Love the bump!
Always sewing here! About to start on my best friends wedding dress. Had to comment on the linty bump pic though, that's what I see when I look down these days too.
Hi thereI've just completed a strip-sewn cot quilt - I've made it for a market but love it so much I'm tempted to keep it for my daughter instead! Here's a link:http://lucybowler.blogspot.com/2009/04/strip-sewn-cot-quilt.htmlCheersLucy
Lovely and colorful pics. We will be sewing/making some place-mats very soon so looking forward to being creative. Ha!Jodiex
I am sewing two shoulder bags! From your fabric by the way, festival plum. I love the rich colors! One is for myself, one might go in my Etsy shop, if all goes well.
Tote bags and Aprons!
I'm sewing quilts! And now I know what my next pattern will be. Thank you for the inspiration. Your quilt will be beautiful! It's a great way to use up scraps. What a cute little baby bump.
I'm working on a quilt for our couch...but also making burp cloths & onesies for new nephew.....and have been buy fabric for future projects like a CRAZY woman---month-long quilt shop hop here. Yikes!www.lifeisfulloffourleafclovers.blogspot.com
I just spent a week whipping up some adorable baby gifts for a dear friend....kimono wrap shirt, kimono shoes, little tote bag, jingley bird softie. Now I must quickly move on to my Easter sewing list...4 sewing days left...EEEKKKKK!
I am cutting and pinning the batiste slip for my four year old's Easter ensemble. Smocked dress - check, slip to keep panties from peeking through - no check yet. Edged in lace, too. Oh help me please! What machine do you use? I am researching for a new one and am asking all I know for their opinions. Not that I know you, but I do...you know? My 6 function Singer is well past it's day....oh even feed, how I covet you!
Lovely strips! And 'oh my' look at that bump!!I am currently making a 'Clothkits' rag doll for my littlest one at the moment.Have a lovely day,Nina x
i'm redecorating my entire living room/kitchen in garden party, so: a fabulous window treatment, lampshade, pillows, etc... all in GARDEN PARTY! will email pics when completed --- xoxo
I want to be sewing dresses and tops for my girls, tops for myself, and a quilt. I want to but my only sewing space in this 700 sq ft house is the dining table but somehow 3 hungry people think they should be able to eat there 2 or 3 times a day. Not condusive to sewing.
Little fabric Easter Eggs - I'm addicted. They're from a tutorial by Retro Mama. Thought I was done and then my sister mentioned she would like some!
4 Easter dresses for 2 little girls and 2 not-so-little girls. 2.5 done, gotta get in there. Was hoping to make a skirt for me, we'll see.
I am busy sewing myself the smock top from your book, a baby quilt, 3 diaper bags, some summer dresses, baby blocks, and baby booties. I am hoping to get a little chicken made for my son for easter....
Thank you for that last photo! I get this weird satisfaction from the various threads that end up stuck to me from my projects--reminds me that I have been doing something fun:)I am making a pair of capris with trim for my daughter. I also have a "garden" quilt that I am piecing....one day it will be finished.Erika
I'm about to get started on a dress (or two) for a few weddings coming up next month.
I love that last photo especially! I am currently moving my craft room to another room in the house, but on my list of things to do first, a handbag for fashion herald.Do you ever sew for yourself?
Trying with all my might to get some sewing done. It is SO hard to do with a 4 year old, 2 year old and 7 month old with an ear infection. But my kids need clothes, the girls need fun dresses, and I need some sanity. So i need to make some time for sewing!
I should be sewing the felt bean bags that I have planned to put in my littles' Easter baskets. My most recently finished project was a simple bag that I am going to use for storage. With a 4yo,2yo and a 8month old my sewing is here and there and sometimes not at all. ;) So I come to your blog and live vicariously through you. ;)
I have an easter dress cut out for the seven year old, but I am too nauseous from being pregnant with # five! boo hoo. Yah, I am living vicariously. My other project is making a raincoat out of the Good Folks laminated fabric. But it will probably being winter by the time I start!
I am working on lots of clothes for my 3 y.o. daughter and I actually have a question fo you if you have the time to comment! I am wanting to make her a little peasant dress using your lime receiving line fabric as the main fabric. (love it!!) I was planning to make it with the flowers running vertically, but after reading the 'grainline' section of your book, I am wondering if I should do it the opposite. Does it matter??!!! Thanks!! LOVE your fabric!! ALL OF IT!!! ~Lori
Just wanted to let you know, I think I spotted YOUR FABRIC in PEOPLE magazine. The current issue has a picture of Haley Berry with her baby girl. Baby is wearing a CUTE dress that looks like your blue and green stcks of books fabric. ENJOY!
I am finishing unfinished projects right now. A sort of sewing spring cleaning. It feels good, at the same time I want to be done and start something brand new!! Tiffany
I'm working on a patchwork pillow. Can't wait to see your finished product!
Ruby's Bloomers from Heather's Weekend Sewing. I cannot stop making them! So easy! And there is nothing like a half naked baby running around in the summer - so it's good to encourage people with gifts :]
Those colors are sort of really gorgeous. Wow, looking good. I'm working on a couple skirts, I got great fabric at Purl Soho in NY. And I have two quilts I need to wrap up here. Then, its on to Good Folks and a few projects I've been eying in Seams to Me.
right now i am not sewing anything. i am aimlessly wading through the end of tax season (i am an accountant) and praying that i will make it to april 15th. i have downloaded the zig zag pattern that i will make starting april 16th! and i love the picture with all of the threads on you. i thought i was the only one who looked like that after sewing!
Not sewing YET as I prepare for a 4 year olds birthday party with new preschool moms who have never been to my house before (a.k.a: scraping ,patching, painting, decluttering, yada yada) and working on continuing ed. But I have a lovely green silk waiting to be made into Roman shades for my bedroom, and a lovely embroidered bronze red material on order for Roman shades to replace the ugly brown metal blinds that have been in my living room for 15 years. Why didn't I do this earlier anyway?
I'm about to start sewing a polkadot red silk version of Folkwear's Blonde Bombshell dress for Portland's Red Dress Party (where everyone who goes, and I do mean everyone--guys too--must wear a red dress). Just have to finish organizing the sewing room first.
I have been without a sewing machine for months. Just got a new one on Sunday and will be spending some quality time with it mending clothes.
i'm in the middle of a tea cozy, pin cushion, boy's romper, baby quilt, peacock wall hanging, and nursing wraps for a friend. thanks for all of your inspiration! and i love the huge pin cushion on a cake (or cupcake?) stand by your machine...
After work hours I have been working on all my freelance illustration work, so no sewing in a while unfortunately! Although the pile of repairs on my husbands jeans and my friends bags are sure as heck getting out of control! :D i LOOOOOVE that last pic of the stringees on your belly!!!
Not sewing right now as I am too nauseous (morning sickness) to watch fabric running through my machine. I hope to be past this stage soon as I have lots of summer clothes to make for myself and my two-year-old!
I'm TRYING to finish up a "raggedy" quilt for my son with the logo of his favorite hockey team on it. I'm on the part where you have to clip each of the exposed seams so that they curl and fray when when you wash the quilt. It's just twin-sized, but it takes FOREVER when two kids and a husband distract you all the time! My reward for getting done is some Good Folks that I just bought to make myself a Ruthie Clutch! Can't wait!
Not sewing :(It's too close to the end of the semester and homework beckons at every waking hour. Alas, my sewing machine sits unused. Perhaps by May I can finally unpack some of the many projects I am conjuring up in my head....skirts, baby clothes, purses.
I am making your new skirt pattern!Love it!
i spend many days covered in sprinkles of thread and bits just like your last photo!*as can be expected, i always look forward to your blog entries and new updates on everything
Silly, you can't wear black when you sew! I am making a quilt for my daughters bed.
I had to laugh when I saw the picture of you! I always have threads all over me lately too! I'm sewing some dresses for a couple of ladies, Easter dresses for my girls, making over a suit coat, skirts for me...I just need to freshen my sewing room so it is truly fun again all the time. If I can get done with my kitchen...:-)Blessings,Jill
Another beautiful creation! I love the random piecing! When I'm not exhausted after a day of child care, I try to work on the quilt top that I started for my friend that just had a baby boy.
I just finished a taxi tote, a little baby kimono top, one of the fun stuffed balls from your book and some bibs. I am making the play along quilt from your book and have the top all done - now I just need to quilt it!
I so badly, badly, badly want to be sewing, but I don't know where to start! Any suggestions for a way to get started? What should my first project be? Dresses/skirts for my girls? I'm a NOVICE! Help!
I actually laughed out loud at the last picture...that's what I look like (unfortunately, minus the lovely belly!) while I'm sewing, (bare feet and all!) Actually, I'm working on your beautiful Socialite dress for my daughter for Easter and another little Easter dress for my other daughter plus a few little odds and ends in the middle...Happy Spring and a blessed Easter to you!
i wish i could sew but i can't so whenever i come to your site, i always just sit and wish i knew how to sew :(
I am finishing hand sewing the binding on a quilt for my son who is almost 5 months now. I stated picking out the fabric when I was 16 weeks pregnant. Let's just say a lot got in the way...sold a house, bought a house, moved, started a new job, husband started a new job, redid the matching bumper pad three times, stopped to sew gifts for others - two baby blankets and four birthday dresses with matching bookbags for my 2 yo daughter and three of her friends. But I'm on the home stretch now, just over half of the quilt left to bind, hoping to be done by next week. And then I intend to start on the window treatment & shower curtain for my bathroom with fabric from the Drawing Room collection. Oh and now I have more baby gifts to sew as another friend is pregnant. I aspire to one day have the time to make myself the study hall skirt and a quilt for my grandmother. Whew!
I love the 'Barefoot & Pregnant' photo :) My daughter tells me off if I leave the house looking like the craft room has thrown up on me. I have just sewn some dilly bags for the kids to give to their teachers for Easter.
I'm sewing NOTHING because my machine BROKE! :( Horrendous timing too. My dear friend & I are setting up shop at our local farmers' market in 3 weeks and I am without a machine but have piles of things to sew. So no sewing but lots of cutting until it returns from the sewing machine hospital.
Memory cards and colored pencil and pad holders for Easter baskets. Aprons for the grown daughters. beanbags!! My monthly quilt block!
I've been working on Easter Dresses for my girls this week- Your blog gave me the push to pull out my HS graduation present, my sewing machine, for the first time in YEARS! Here's the links to the 2 I've finished: http://wannabecrafter.blogspot.com/2009/04/its-little-big-but-we-like-it.html and http://wannabecrafter.blogspot.com/2009/04/dress-1-complete-simplicity-2677.html You'll recognize some of the fabric. :)
Just finished a typewriter cover for my grandfather. He mailed me what was left of the decades-old plastic cover as a pattern -- I'm amazed it lasted this long. his new one is a very masculine navy (I had to resist the incredibly strong urge to add lime piping) with his name monogrammed on the front. He loves it. It makes me grin ear to ear that an old man would be so tickled by a few bits of fabric and thread.
i'm getting ready to re-upholster 2 mid-century couches i bought at an estate sale last week. $30 a piece! also, a robot shirt for my b-day boy, bags for my sister-in-law to give as gifts, and dresses for my big girls
no sewing going on in these parts at the moment... my little boy is into everything... so i am knitting instead... fewer sharp things for him to damage himself on!!
Knitting some sock (only 1 so far) for the first time, ugh, only ripped it out three times so far! Also working a bag, block carrier, and about 10 different quilts. I have crafty attention disorder... Always been that way, always will be. Sigh.
I'm sewing a lot of recycle projects (halter tops from tees; laundry and beach bags. Working on purses and headbands. Whatever my creative mind takes me! ;D
semi-silly question: what kind of iron do you use? I am an ironing nut & have been using a black & decker but it is nearing the end of its life. Thanks, Cheryl in IN.
Today it is Good Friday and I don´t sew at all. Next week I with my pupils continue our bag project. There are bags of heavy cotton and bags of linen decorated with flower applique on the way. We sell the bags to raise money for our trips.Your fabrics are so beautiful! Happy Easter
Now THATS what my lap generally looks like! I'm putting together a couple of halterneck tops for a friends two girls. Delightful!... think your amazing and talented!
I would love to be sewing but the sewing machine hates me!! I just can't keep it working. I do alot of hand-sewing.Reneegardendesk.com
Recently finished a birdie sling with Good Folks fabric!Working on some little pouches for gifts for friends and hopefully some summer skirts soon.http://wendymoondesigns.blogspot.com/
Oh how much I miss sewing! We just had a "Diva Design Camp" for the Girl Scouts...a friend and I hosted it and we had "sew" much fun!You can see the fun here...http://www.flickr.com/photos/americangirl/sets/72157616429946898/
I have just started a blue and white baby quilt. It's basically a scrap quilt because my sewing room is overflowing with fabric. I don't know how that happened.
I'm Sewing Bunnies for grands for Easter. However, they keep being sold because everyone wants one that sees them. So, I keep sewing bunnies. They are up on my blog.Have a great Easter with your family.God Bless,Jan
I'm sewing...bags of course! Making some for quilt market in May. The last picture makes me laugh. I often show up to pick the girls up from school with bits of thread hanging off of me!
You are so funny! - you know, in a good way. I love reading your blog.
I'm working on a quilt for an upcoming auction. Oddly my belly looks a lot like yours...and funny how those mommy to be tummies seem to pick a dang lot of threads and fuzz!
Just finished a beautiful shift for my daughter for Easter with your garden party rose fabric. Making three little girls purses for Easter with your lollipop fabric. About to start cutting out a spring coat for my daughter out of several of your drawing room fabrics. (That's funny. Just realized that all of my current projects are using your gorgeous fabric.) Also just received two of your new patterns that I'm dying to try for myself....and have committed to making at least five bags for my cousin to sell in an upcoming show... Wow, I'm tired. Michelle
Hi Anna, I love your blog and your book! So this quilt on the wall, how did you get it to stay up there? I love that idea and how I have never thought of that is beyond me.. It that a specail board? Thanks for letting me see that I am not the only mom walking around town fully accessorized with "threads" all over. Thanks again,Mechelle
Hi Anna Maria! I have a 2 year old daughter and a son on the way probably within the week! :) My house is clean, diapers are washed and his room is ready, so I've been sewing like crazy. I just moved the sewing machine downstairs so I could sew during my daughter's nap. I've made her several A-line dresses for this summer, and for the boy I've made some elastic pants and embellished onesies - so cute! They even have a few matching outfits. A few days ago I got brave and tried a collared shirt for him and it surprisingly turned out great! (I'm scared to put buttonholes on it, but other than that...!) I think I'm going to try the skirt in your book for my daughter next. When is your baby due?
A quilt, of course! It is nearly done with only the borders to be added. Thank goodness this one was easy because last month's quilt nearly did me in. After that one is finished, it's onto pot holders for Mother's Day. Time is always well spent in the sewing room.Have a Happy Easter.
Is this a quilt for the new baby? I hope you'll show whatever creations you are making for the new little one!
I have been feverishly finishing a quilt with some gorgeous brown linen combined with Garden Party fabrics as well as Good Folks. I have added a photo to the Flickr Garden Party Sewing Pool. I hope you like it, I know I have enjoyed the process of making it and am pleased with the outcome. Cheers!
Your pictures are always so beautiful, but I gotta say that I literally snorted coffee when I saw the last picture of you with the threads everywhere. This is what sewing means to me. It's messy! I work in my unfinished basement, which is actually the perfect space because my work can be left out when duty calls. But I am almost always covered in little threads, tail ends, and ravels after a day of sewing. And of course everything sticks to my flannel PJ's and fleece pullovers! I consider those little pieces of thread a badge of honor. They say I am a maker and creator of wonderful things in multi-colored hues, and I wouldn't have it any other way.I'm working on trying to fill in some sizes of my designs for a craft show coming up in May, and trying to decide which fabric to choose for a new summer skirt. Thanks as always for the inspiration.
Well, I am brand new to sewing and the project that is my new project for the week is going to be one of yours "Magnetic Personality." I am sew looking forward to my very first sewing project. My mom bought your book Seams to me and I loved it sew much that I am trying a project:) Wish me luck! I will let you know how it goes!!
Unfortunately, in this exact moment, I'm working although desperately WISHING and would prefer to be sewing. Come to think of it, your blog is an awful nice work break. I just finished a spring skirt for myself and I'm beginning a new quilt. This will be the first one I will actually keep and just might even use it on my own bed! I love all those quilts you have hanging on the ladder in your studio. So pretty!
You are such a doll! Love the baby belly and sweater all covered in threads. Just finished sewing 3 new spring clothing designs, and currently working on some table runners. Dying to do a Spring colored quilt...oh, time where are you?
LOL - I love your last picture. My family is always teasing me about always being covered in threads and fuzz!
>>What are you sewing? And if you're not, please explain yourself.<<Now this made me laugh out loud. I feel guilty already for not sewing, so I might have to squeeze something in just out of guilt, LOL!
working on a last minute quit for my soon to be born son. Hopefully it will be done before he gets here next weekend (fingers crossed) and I may also have to slip in my multi tasker tote/diaper bag version one I have floating in my head.
A ring sling for a baby shower gift, a circle skirt for me, more bitty baby things for more baby showers, and floofy dresses for my little princess.
I LOVE your sewing table! The quilt is cool too. I'm sewing slipcovers and valances for a window seat...it's actually giving me a very big headache but at least I'll be making $500 out of it! :o)
That has got to be the cleanest, shiniest iron I've ever seen in my life. I always sewing sockmonkeys. Maybe I'll make a dress for one, one of these days.
i've been busy making baby gifts...two more to go. so far a bib, jingle balls and a quilt are finito. now i'm working on some fun pillows for our living room before company comes for my son's first communion (two days away- eek!).
