What beauty is this?

bloom.afterall

Last year I wondered why it was called a Christmas cactus. This year I 'm wondering what I did to deserve this little bloom of progress. A small but welcome joy. Wishing you such. xoA

Oh, yours is coming along nicely! I need to cut and transfer a bunch of mine. I'd probably have enough to cover all our windowseats.

  6. It's called a Christmas cactus because if you care for it a certain way (see below) it was *always* be covered in blossoms for Christmas. I love this plant :)

There's an easy trick to making these bloom every year. They need some down time to "sleep" for a few months. I'm not sure I remember this properly, but I think you put them in a dark place, no watering, about September. Then, end of November or so bring it back out into the light and water it again. By Christmas it will be *covered* in flowers. After flowering is done, pinch back the stems a few segments and they will branch out, making a bushier, fuller plant with even more flowers for next Christmas.

  11. I was pleasantly surprised that mine (the "mother" of yours) is in bloom again for Christmas since it bloomed in October. Go figure!
Seems that my cactus' baby bloomed after it left home--just like my human baby!
    Enjoy.
