Scrappity-doo-dah

So maybe your scrap piles are overflowing like mine. I have been sewing up a storm this summer, and all on stuff I can't share yet. I did however lessen the load in my scrap boxes recently by stripping some fun pillows for the patio. I encourage you to organize your scraps by warm colors and cool colors. It might be the control freak designer in me but, I am just about 100% positive this trick alone will make you a happy person. It made me happy to randomly grab scraps from each box when stitching up these little doo-dahs.

I perched them on the wicker sofa in a cozy corner of the patio for now. Right on cue the little two also noticed I had moved some of their books out there. Do you ever move some kid books just to see if they'll follow them? It works. I think they stop seeing them if they're in the same place all the time. Plop a stack somewhere else in your house and see what happens. I am telling you its like birdfeed.

Eleni said she had to sit next to that one declaring "it has the same like me" pointing to the red and yellow embroidered flowers on her Mexican frock. Yes, of course, I thought. Isabela, ever the agreeable one, settled for the being next to the blue and green one.

Only a few more days of this duo and then Isabela heads to Kindergarten. Anything me and my scraps can do to make these fleeting moments more memorable is a worthwhile endeavor.

those pillows are so cute!

and the pictures are heartwarming - somehow they remind me of childhood days with my sister, browsing through books and argueing about whose book contains the nicer stories and pictures... ;)

Ah, yes, I remember those fleeting moments of anticipating no children at home. For me, it hit a whole year before you left the roost for kindegarten as I watched your sister, Eleni, heading for the bus on her first day of school.

Love the pillows and the idea of grouping scraps by cool/warm. The girls look so sweet! I think it's so heart tugging to anticipate that first day of school. My little bitty has three more years until kindergarten and I know I will not be ready, not even on the second day of school.

Those pillows look great! My daughter has a very similar dress that I bought from a Hispanic vendor at a Native American Pow wow. They were so cute I couldnt pass up buying another one in a bigger size for next year!

I bought four of those dresses from a vendor last year at the flea market, they were so cheap, like 5$ or something. Wish I had bought more...and wished that they had had my size too :)

Wow, such timing! I just dug through my mom's scraps and just made strips of cool and hot...am still trying to decide if it will become a quilt (alternating between lots of cool/hot stripes, or perhaps just a few divided by neautral linen...)or will be stripped further into pillows, etc. (you can see my strips here)
Thanks for the inspiration!

Those are really fun pillows--so random, yet so put-together. I'm a bit of a newcomer to your blog, and just saw that you have a book in progress. That is so incredibly cool. Congratulations!

Your two little girls always remind me so much of of my girls. Same ages, same hair colors and now I find out same Mexican dresses. I hope you are including a pattern for those wonderful coats in your book so those can be the same too.

Wonderful idea. My scrap pile runneth over. The pillows and little girls who are gracing them are wonderful.

That is great -- and yes, they do follow the books around the house. I cleaned and put away some of the books, suddenly my daughter found them anew and has been demanding we read books she hadn't looked at in ages! It makes her book loving mommy proud that she loves reading so much -- and that she wants us to read to her constantly. Thank goodness for the library or else I would be heartily sick of Green Eggs and Ham by now!

I hope those of you with scrap piles know how lucky you are. I've been living without a craft space for years and only sew at a friend's house. Sometimes I think of projects and wish I had access to my mom's scraps more than just once a year. I need at least 10 more projects before I have enough scraps to sustain their own project!

Ooooh! Anything I can do to lessen my scraps! Great idea. I like to make dog beds and cat cozys with mine (I've always got left over bits of blanket stuffing, so I kill two birds with one stone!) Oy..I've got alot of catching up to do with you dear!
