Wash-y Strings

I love the soft, furry strings that unravel and do the tango in the washer and dryer. I have a few yards washed and ready for sewing. There have been times when I've been so anxious to work on something that I don't wash the fabric first. Confessions of a cotton addict. If the un-pre-washed items happen to be a garment for me, I just give it to my sister afterwards. She is the exact cotton-shrink-up size difference from me in height and weight. It's perfect. Anyway, this fabric reminds me of a lush lawn with a few dandelions popping up and other summery things. So it'll be a summer dress with summery madras as straps and it will be worn by me, even after its been washed.

But for now, I'm author-girl, and until I change out of that cape, it'll have to wait all soft and wrinkley for me. xoAM

  2. Ooooh, I confess that I never pre-wash fabric. I just add 2 inches extra to the bottom of every pattern, LOL!
Good luck with your writing! As an author myself, I know that sometimes it is hard, but it is also very rewarding! I haven't written anything in a long time...these days, I'd much rather scrapbook or sew, LOL!

  8. I have been looking through a Jolly Pack of all your Chocolate Lollipop fabrics. I am having a hard time figuring out what to make from your fabrics. I have been a good girl pre-washing fabrics, but I have not tried putting it in the dryer! Will the fabric look as before it was washed when you put it in the dryer?

The dress will have to look great with those colors. Green is my favorite color!

Hope the writing is going alright!

  9. Hi Knittacia!
    Yay a jolly lolli!
There are some items I make with my fabric where it really matters to me whether or not the color stays intense or not. With this summer dress I am making, I did want to go ahead and let it do all its shrinking so I put it in the dryer. You will see a very slight drop in intensity of the color of fabric, but not a noticelable one to most.
Since the dress is something I will want to wash and wear a lot, I'm thinking more function with it. With the applique skirt I made recently and shared on my blog a ways back, it was really important for me to retain the color and shape of everything, so I just have it dry-cleaned rather than ever laundering it. But I don't wear it as often so likely no harm done.
These fabrics are dyed really well overall and should maintain good color as long as you always wash them gently in cold water and use quality soaps.

    Hope that helps! xo,AM

  20. I love the washy strings! I always wonder what I could do with them. I do always prewash, though, because I'm terrified of something bleeding all over the project. You're braver than I! ~A :-)
