Cake-a-thon

Who's ready??

It's just about birthday bonanza time in this house. Eleni will be 3 on the 20th, Nicolas 9 on the 22nd and Juliana 15 (ack) on the 27th! Count'em! Three birthdays in one week! (I know, I know...something special about the month of March) It is much better than the 3 broken arms in one year I was whining about. But golly there are cakes to make.

And because I was so completely plushed at Christmas, it's time to do my part and mix, baby. That mango mixer has been waiting for me. But I wasn't ready. Until now. I have something new to wear for the big cake-a-thon. As I sew, sketch, measure and plan through my pattern prototypes, I decided to cook one up that would compliment my new partner in the kitchen. I'm not getting all dressed up for a store bought cake mix either,...oh no. That would be like taking your brother to the prom (love you George). I shall bake from scratch, my darlings.

Now when I hear Jeff pull into the driveway in the evenings, I won't dash to change out of my pajamas, I'll just dab flour on the nose and tie this one on.

Stay tuned to the sweetest place on earth for the cake chronicles........

xoxo, AM

  7. Absolutely lusting after the apron. The ruching, the piping, the pockets. Oh lordy!!
For an incredibly easy and absolutely delicious cake (and I'm not normally one for chocolate cake) try Nigella's Choc and Sour Cream cake. It's not too rich or sickly and has just the right amount of tang to it. Just a thought. Looking forward to the cake chronicles!

  8. I received a KitchenAid Last Christmas and it is possibly the best thing my husband has ever bought me! (well, with the exception of my sewing machine, the cashmere yarn & my Louie Vitton). I need the apron now!!!

Ooh..and don't forget to use your mixer for meatloaf & meat balls! So much nicer than mixing by hand!

  9. Strawberry-Thanks for the Nigella tip! I just need to remember which one of the kids likes chocolate cake. Who wouldn't take cake advice from Strawberry Delight???

And thanks for your nice words :)

  11. I love the way the mixer seems to brighten the entire kitchen! Orange has become one of my favorite colors; it draws the eye and brightens the spirit.

What a stylish and smart apron!

  16. I've been stuck in the house since Saturday due to icy roads and yesterday I wanted so badly to bake a cake! Unfortunately for me, I have no eggs. No cute apron or mixer either.

  17. Oh I love cake...and Homemade cake is soo much better.

My husband bought my Kitchenaid for me for my birthday (but in black) and it is by far my favorite appliance. Have you seen the Ice Cream Maker attachment? It's VERY cool...Homemade Ice Cream AND Homemade Cake...YUM! I've got to get one myself before the summer.

Love the apron and can't wait to see your new fabric/pattern lines!

  20. Such a stinking cute (and little sexy) apron. I have had amazing luck with the Coconut Cake and Sour Cream pound cake recipes from Ina Garten too.

  21. Oooh - I love that apron! At first I thought it was a party dress for the party and was completeky envious. I still envy the heck outta your apron though. I would want to wear it everywhere. Your mixer is lovely as well - exactly what I would have picked. I like my white one, but its just white and tangerine is so much more cheerful and vibrant.

  22. Ack my comment got lost. Anyway, I just wanted to say that your apron is major envy worthy. I'd have to find reasons to wear something that pretty out in public. And the color of your mixer is so vibrant and cheerful.

Now I will go back to lurking, and maybe make an apron :)
